On talksport this morning - he said he never asked to leave SAFC and that SAFC received an enquiry from Villa which he was made aware of but never thought that villa would meet our valuation.

When Villa did meet the valuation, Niall Quinn asked him to put in a transfer request to take the hit from the media and fans.

I actually believe him! Quyinn said that he would never make the mistakes that were made with Phillips (offered over £15m for him and turned down) so I guess this is one of those scenarios.

Why would Bent lie about this? Not like he has to drive through Sunderland and take **** from any of us is it?

I think it fits perfectly in with Quinn's chairman legacy personally. Money was the main driver.

Why would he do it? Why lie about it? Is he planning on re-joining us on loan as that's the ONLY reason he'd have to lie!

He's been on a few times on TalkSport and he loved playing for us - you could hear it in his voice

Not sure that's 100% the truth.

He was on his way to being a legend at our club and ****ed it.

Wasn't he shagging Bruce's daughter at the time we sold him? Not literally at the exact time.

He was a forgotten man rotting in Spurs reserves before we gave him a lifeline and gave him the opportunity to get back into the England squad. Thousands of our fans even turned up to support him on his England recall. He went from being not wanted at Spurs to being loved here, so yes i do believe he loved his time here but unfortunately his selfish greed got the better of him after hearing of the opportunity to double his wages and recieving a nice big hefty signing on fee. He only had to wait 4 more months till the season finished and then none of us would have stood in his way.

Thing is if he is lying then it’s slanderous towards Quinnyand Short. This is why I can’t work out why he’s said it if it’s a lie. The only reason it’d be worth him lying us if we were signing him again

It's not like he's accused them of tax fraud or something. Can't see them dragging him into court for that one. Doubt they'll even read his comments.

He’s ****ing lying. He was in a hotel in Birmingham before we’d agreed **** all and THAT is why we turned on him.

His nose was out of joint as Gyan was taking the mantle, Gyan was a prick but my god as a footballer he pissed on Bent, Bent seen this developing and he made a dart at first opportunity.

There was room for both and we could have been superb had he stayed, his departure unsettled the whole club and was at the very start of a steady decline that leaves us in League One.

I ain’t saying that’s on Bent but don’t talk **** Darren, we know what you did. He’d have been a ****kng idol here.

Bent is a free agent at present.

We are well known to need another striker.

Whatever else, he claim muddies the waters.

Bent would not score at the sort of rate he used too, but he would score.
    Are we that desperate?
I don't think so, but that would be up to the Manager to assess.

Personally I'd rather we waited to se how Watmore returns then re-examine the situation in the new year.

As for the truth of his claim, I wonder if anyone has asked Quinn or Bruce what happened?

Whatever he did his actions pale into insignificance compared to those of more recent players, 3 in particular. If he went to try and further his career (unsuccessfully) I don't blame him and everything you hear or read about how and why he left is not neccessarily the way it happened. From a practical perspective I'd rather him playing for us than against us and as already said he probably would score at this level.

I don't have a problem with Bent but I think we should be looking at signing players ten years younger than him, as we have been doing.

Says he loved his time at the club!

Didn’t stop him from running around cupping his ear when he scored one of the goals that sent us down did it? Prick
