Darrell Clarke believes Rovers are only an attacking player or two away from enjoying a more productive second half to the season. Clarke said: "We reached the halfway point of the season recently and we all know that to get there with only 23 points isn't good enough. We expected to have a lot more than that at this stage of the season, but we have struggled with our work in the final third at times. You don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out where we need to improve because defensively we are among the best seven teams in the division. We just need to be better with our final ball and more clinical with the chances we do create and we have to score more goals. It really is as simple as that. If we can add a couple of players to help us out in those forward areas then we would hope to certainly have a better second-half to the season" "I like players at the top end of the pitch to have a bit of pace about them and that is an area we are looking to improve on. Matt Harrold does a fantastic job up there on his own for us, but we do lack a striker that has a bit of pace and plays on the shoulder of the defenders" "The league is very tight from top to bottom. I don't think there is a lot of difference between those sides at the top and those at the bottom and there is certainly not any you would fear. We also have 12 of our last 21 games at home and our form at the Memorial Stadium has been good recently" "The fans always give us a big lift and have backed us throughout the season and we will need them to stick by us. I have played a lot of my football in League One and League Two and I have to say that the fans here are up with the best of them. The way they get behind us is tremendous and, if you are asking me whether we have deserved that sort of support this season, then I'd have to admit that we probably haven't" Taken from the post.... http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Darrel...s-need-boost/story-20470437-detail/story.html
Well I can't argue with any of that - it's plain as the nose on your face why we are where we are. Get someone in pronto and then let's push up the table!
I don't lior knocking Ward but the lack of pace and fire power has been an issue since pre season which we all were saying. If it was obvious to us surely it should be obvious to Ward a long time ago. Think though Ward has had to wait until players go to free up wages. Now Kenneth, Gill and Paterson is gone, hopefully no more excuses as Ward has had all this time to find someone. I trust in Ward to get it right.
I am beginning to get a bit worried re our recruitment, or lack of it. It's now Wednesday and there's still no sign of anyone coming in. We need at least one pacey striker/winger and we need them fast. It's essential to benefit from our many upcoming home games so the club needs to get things moving and get people in the building sharpish.
