Anyone off down to darlo to see how the rest of the team does? Was looking at how the squad was split and have to say being able to field two teams of decent ability is exciting
It is bloody fantastic, every player tonight is now under pressure for a start on Saturday then to keep their place for Liverpool, at last we have real competition for places.
I was under the impression that tonights team was basically just going to be made up of kids and reserves...If it is not, I might just have a run down there providing I can get on top of this bloody assignment I'm currently working on...This damn site has a lot to answer for.. PS..Does anyone know what team we are putting out?
Steve Bruce will run the rule over several senior players as Sunderland face Darlington at the Northern Echo Arena tonight (KO 8pm). Craig Gardner, Ji Dong-won, Michael Turner, Titus Bramble, David Vaughan, Keiren Westwood and Connor Wickham (pictured) have all been named in the squad to face the Conference National outfit, who begin their season on Saturday. A number of youngsters will also get the opportunity to stake a claim, including defender John Egan who is recently returned from a successful European Championships campaign with the Republic of Ireland's under-19 team. Bruce gave all of his starting XI a full 90 minutes at Hartlepool last night and now he will be looking to give further game time to senior players who didn't figure at Victoria Park. There's good news regarding defender Michael Turner, who is back in the squad following a knock, while second-year apprentice Adam Mitchell - a striker - wins a first senior call-up. Darlington were relegated from the Football League in 2009-10 and finished seventh in non-league football's top tier last season, seven points shy of a play-off place. Boss Mark Cooper has stabilised the club and sees his outfit as well-positioned to launch a bid for promotion this time around. Former Black Cat Jamie Chandler has found a home at the Northern Echo Arena, becoming a key player for a Darlington side who were also in action last night, beating Newton Aycliffe 4-2. The Quakers' Conference season begins with a home clash with newcomers Braintree Town and they will face six league games in a congested August schedule.
