Blue Square Bet Premier side Darlington have been placed in administration for a third time in nine years. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/16395001.stm
F.A. Cup 1960/61 Results Second Round Sat Nov 26 Darlington 1-1 Hull City Mon Nov 28 Hull City 1-1 Darlington Mon Dec 5 Hull City 1-1 Darlington (the match was played at Elland Road, Leeds United FC and was abandoned after 90 minutes - before extra time - due to the state of the pitch) Mon Dec 12 Hull City 0-0 Darlington (the match was played at Belle Vue, Doncaster Rovers FC) Thu Dec 15 Hull City 3-0 Darlington (the match was played at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough FC) I shouldn't scoff, they've kicked our ar5es plenty of times in the past, and if we hadn't had the luck of the green on a few occasions that article might have been about us.
Amazing how things change. We beat them 4-1 on the opening day of the 2003/2004 season in the old Division Three. Now we're three divisions apart and have spent 2 years in the Premier League, whilst they continue to struggle in the lower leagues.
Doesn't there stadium hold 25k? they get on a average 1k if they're lucky... this season they got 660 at one game.
should we say serves em right for being vultures when they took half of our team for nowt all those years ago prior to the great escape? having said that, this is probably the third generation of that administration since then
Their chairman did them no favours by building that ridiculous stadium. Delusions of grandeur! Am I right in thinking he's the guy that served time for safe cracking?
Just been on the local news here in York. New stadium has done no good for them and games against them are among my earliest memories of supporting city. Not nice to see any club go under so hope they can sort things out.
As a Darlington supporter for 50 years it is sad to see financial problems return again. My interest in football started from being taken to a Darlington game in my late teens and the highlight(so far) was seeing them win at Wembley last year. Only a hard core of supporters remain but it is 'not over until it is over' as the saying goes so fingers and toes crossed for the emergence of a' White Knight'. Sorry for all the cliches but am a little emotional at the moment.
Prior to the Great Escape? That was the season I started going. It was our playoff season when they nicked Harper, Brightwell, and Clint "money doesn't matter" Marcelle, had they been at it on a previous occassion as well?
Very sad, overambition for atown that never has had a track record of supporting it'sclub. On a relative scale it is comparable to City trying to build a stadium twice the size of wembley
I believe that the plan was for the Paul Duffen Arena, until Bartlett came back to ask his caretaker why the **** we'd just had to sell our best defensive player for a bag of buttons and discovered the **** we'd got in in his abence.
When we first met up in South Africa in 1967 it turned out that I went to the first match in the above Cup Tie and my husband went to the final one. From that time we always wanted to attend a match together between our teams but fate has intervened on at least one occasion.( Last Hull City game at Boothferry Park).
Dopey sod got banged up for tax evasion when they stopped his car and he had £500k in cash in the boot. I've got some mates from Boro who say he was big in the drug business round there, but as far as I know he never actually nicked for it.
