Sorry for the short thread but with the defection of Kingston Hill- This looks a formality now for True Story (who will surely go off odds on) if he has any intentions of winning the derby. Also we see Mr Fallon in the saddle for his 1st major ride as Goldophin Joint Stable Jockey. True Story- 5/4 Bunker- 3/1 Marzocco- 8/1 Arod- 9/1 Odeon 14/1 16/1 BAR (PRICES FROM BETFAIR)
I know- I had a quick look at some of the other sites and they don't have any prices up for yet they will tomorrow but as I said you can currently get 5/4 on the exchanges
Another disappointing turnout for a Derby trial, but they generally do have single figure fields. Most of this year’s trials have taken place on softened ground – except the 2000 Guineas – so if it does not turn up soft at Epsom at the beginning of June, the form will be completely worthless. This looks a match between Manduro colt True Story, who should go on the ground and has race fitness on his side, and Hurricane Run colt Bunker, who should go on the ground (remember dad winning the 2005 Arc in the pouring rain?) and deserves his place in the line-up based on the form of his juvenile races. There look to be few pedigree grounds for believing that The Grey Gatsby will stay and the form of the 2000 Guineas looks unsatisfactory (although the jury is still out). If he stays and is beaten less than six lengths, does that make Australia look better than this field? If True Story or Bunker wins in a common canter, doubtless the media will begin painting this year’s Derby as a match between the winner and the massively overhyped Australia (so brilliant that he has only a fifty percent win record but the trainer has got to be right sooner or later).
It's never quite as easy as it looks at times! A True Story's bubble just went 'pop' big style! Australia 4/5 now for the Derby- that's probably value
I guess I was wrong about The Grey Gatsby not staying. Congratulations to his connections – they took their chance and it paid off. We know that The Grey Gatsby will not be winning the Derby because (a) he is not entered; and (b) the jockey got off him and said ten furlongs was as far as he would go. I expect that they will be looking at the Prix Du Jockey Club on June 1st for their grey. Very disappointing from the point of view of those of us that want a decent race at Epsom, whoever wins. As it stands I am expecting that Godolphin will allow a couple of theirs to still take their chance because there is only one Derby and you cannot win it standing in your box at Newmarket.
Ooops never thought the grey gatsby would win but did tell you to take the evens now he is 4/6 I can see Australia going off 1/2 on the day
