According to the Mail on Sunday Danny Simpson was the best defender yesterday "making 18 clearances, 10 with his head, four blocks and two interceptions".

On the downside Dan Gosling was the dirtiest player.

In another item Yohan Cabaye, based on figures supplied by EA Sports, "has looked the contender for transfer of the season after joining Newcastle from Lille in the summer and the £4.3million midfielder is clearly not work shy. He has run a total of 103.1 miles in 15 games to head a top 10 that is dominated by midfield players." Ryan Taylor comes third having ran 101.4 miles.

Simpson was **** yesterday he is incapable of staying with his man, I know he's small to be playing CB but he didn't even attwempt to challenge for headers for their goals.

That doesn't surprise me considering that the others were Perch, Raylor and the inexperienced Santon. They were all a bit pants though. Letting the Norwich forwards head those goals in at point blank range like that on more than one occasion was just a joke. It wasn't poor defending. There was just NO defending full stop.

  4. Very harsh. Out of position and he did quite well, but obviously he's going to get beaten in the air by Morisson and Holt.

He was ok overall but failed at the times where we really needed to defend.

I'd rather play him at CB than Perch <ok>

For a small, full back he did well, but he had no chance against Holt and Morrison in the air. All round he was better than Perch.

That pass from Cabaye to Ba was amazing. Wonderful technique.

He did better than I expected him to, but he was still fairly poor.

Yeah we dealt pretty well with their high balls but our dreadful marking let us down ... We weren't as poor as the QPR match but the sending off and the lack of organisation during their set pieces cost us at the end of the day ...

I'm a Newcastle fan, not a Norwich fan. This username came from something completely unrelated to football.

Really wish I'd came up with something else for this forum though - People keep making the mistake!

Simpson was good yesterday I thought. I think Raylor's move to RB might involve keeping Simpson at CB until Williamson is back.

Williamson and Colo will hopefully both be back next week. The difference would be incredible.

don't know why some are worried about willo it wasn't that long ago people wee saying get rid of saylor when he didn't sign his contract as we had willo and a lot thought willo and colo at the time were better than saylor colo

not saying you are one of them but read stuff about 'ooh he can't head the ball' 'he's slow blah blah blah' lately....short memories

when we signed him he had no game time went straight into the team and was MOTM

Sorry, but Simmo is a reserve, only to be brought on for injury. Playing him full time is scary

This is part of the reason I expected us to fall off the pace (albeit later on than we have). The players are having to put so much effort in to get a result, I think a lot of them will be suffering from burnout round March-April time.

I still think that. Williamson ain't good enough to be first choice by any stretch of the imagination compared to the Saylor and Colo partnership.

However, given the situation, Williamson is far better than Perch or Simpson at CB, so we just have to appreciate what we can get at the time.

If Guthrie and Tiote were fit we could rotate those two and Cabaye. To have ran over 100 miles is ridiculous.

Agreed. Saylor's better than Williamson but not by as much as people would like to think. We were solid with Colo and Willo together last season, he just had a bad run of form towards the end.
