What the **** is the point in him?

Yes he gets forward well and pushes on but he can't cross when he get's there. He then fails to get back quick enough to actually defend which is his main role. He bottled out of the challenge for Brightons goal, that was just pure cowardly and I hate ****ing cowards. He generally looks like he couldn't give a **** if we get beat. He's not exactly the best defender either now is he?

Here is a master stroke for Pardew to mull over, why don't we play Ryan Taylor RB? Yes his tackling is about as average as Simpsons but at least Raylor will be able to put in a decent cross when he gets forward, he has a long throw which we could benefit from and he's not a ****ing coward. Also BenArfa couldn't take a corner for his life so Raylor would be useful in that sense as well.

On another note, it looks like Cabaye will miss the next 3 games if not longer for studding that guy in the face. That'll be a massive loss for us, I just hope the FA didn't see it.

Looking on the brighter side of things at least we can focus solely on the league. Hopefully with the 2 Demba's, Tiote and that new signing we are promised we can nick that 5th spot (or 6th) distraction free. Finally credit where credit is due for James Perch. He was fantastic today. MOM for me.

He did play pretty poor. As did Santon, who also had a pretty poor game against Fulham.

I honestly believe ( and I've always believed this) Simpson is one of the weak links in our team. His positional awareness is ****ing shocking at times. Yeah he was on a yellow but make the sacrifice and take the red and we would have still got a replay. I couldn't believe the way he bottled the challenge. If he had really commited himself he may have even won the ball but instead he threw his hands up like some sort of nancy boy.

I believe we should get in a solid left back and have Santon at right back (allbeit he was pretty poor at times today as well). Thats my view anyway.

I'm just annoyed in general mind and I believe this will fester for quite awhile. I just can't believe how unlucky we were today. We honestly didn't deserve to lose

****ing pissed me off when he just stood there with his arms in the air while the player he should of been tracking raced into our half.

Completely agree mate. alot of people give him praise, and fair play his clearances off the line in the Man Utd game's were brilliant, but I really don't rate him.

He can't take a man on, his crossing is generally woeful, he isn't that quick for a full back, and Im never confident when he is one-on-one with someone. If Fulham offered 4 mill for him, I'd take it. I think R Taylor would do a better job than him, because positionally he is much more intelligent.

Time for him to leave the club, disgrace at Liverpool, disgrace at Fulham and that tonight was the worst of the night. Hope we sign a right back or play Raylor who has done nothing wrong, that is 9 goals we have conceded to left backs this year.

Well Raylor hasn't done NOTHING wrong, he was more or less non existent at left back at Chelsea and in a few other matches around that time before Santon came in. We need to play a natural full back there, but it needs to be someone better than Simpson

What I think of Simpson :
    He's a decent defender
He did save us a few times eg; Man Utd match goalline

    However....
He has no ball-playing ability and can't use the ball well
His crosses are inconsistent as a result
He can't judge the bounce of the ball....I've seen perfectly good high balls to him bounce over his head <doh>

Overall, if we wanted to improve our team , we would need to get him out of our best starting lineup by getting a better player.
I think there's no hurry in bringing in anyone yet as we're in January, but once we get to the next transfer window we should be looking to bring someone better in(probably at LB so Santon can move to RB)

Had a poor game but one of many. Couldn't single him out. He has been in great form this season in general but he has been poor twice recently and a dropping may kickstart him again. Either Raylor to come in or possibly Fergie who looked excellent. That would allow Santon to go to his natural role and not have to cut back to deliver the ball. Either way it is not right to go overboard on Simpson given how he has performed for us this year. Ever present for a reason.

I'd have Santon on the right and Fergie on the left if we get no-one else in. Fergie may not be the best defensively but he can't be any worse than Simpson, and he's class going forward.
