Even if we gave Smith to Rangers on a free there's no way they could pick up even 50% of his wages so I doubt that one. Can't see him accepting the £10/15k per week that they could probably afford.

Doubt Simpson would go to West Ham, he's cemented his place in our team and is developing really well. He seems happy where he is. West Ham is hardly a step forward for him.

Simpson is happy here and is after one of the 5 year contracts that we hand out as if they were sweets (apparently we're offering him one in summer after we deal with Jose and Joey), dont imagine he'd fancy the Championship/struggling in the Prem with West Ham either.

Ranger's might well be one of the few clubs in the Venn diagram who are of poor enough quality to start Smith but have enough money to pay his wages. I think we would all let him go and thank him for his services. Leave on good terms, not having sat on the bench for years.

EDIT: just remembered Rangers do not in fact have anywhere near the money to pay his 60k a week <laugh>

So yeah it's probably a load of ****. Rangers couldn't even afford to offer Kenny Miller a improved offer from his contract of only ''apparently'' 18k a week. Oh and Smudger I doubt Smith is actually on 60k a week, he probably took a pay-cut last summer when we got relegated. Must still be on ''high'' wages though, probably around the 50k mark I'll imagine.

Edit: With the new takeover they might afford one ''luxury'' player like Smith though, so you never know. CL football and chances of going out on a high might attract Smith to take a pay-cut.

Simpson loves playing for us and the lad is doing well this season, having stepped up from The Championship.

Smith's day's are numbered at SJP. He's done well but maybe it is time for him to move on,but as has been stated his wages would be a stumbling block.

If he want's first team football he will have to take a wage cut.

Can't see Simpson going, though I suspect Smith will move to Rangers.

I'd give Barton the 3/4 year deal he wants. He's only 28. Jose and Danny deserve 5 year deals. Jose goes without saying, but I think Simpson has improved so much over the last couple of season that he really deserves it. He's young and now an established PL quality RB. Sign them all up. Then with Gosling and Ben Arfa to come back we're going to be a very good team next year - and that's not even thinking of what summer signings we'll make. Let's beat Wolves on Saturday and we're almost over the line! I think the news of Ben Arfa's return to the city will give all players and fans the lift we need to get the job done.

Simpson won't go and certainly not to West Ham.

Smith (I assume) only has a year left on his contract, so he might be prepared to take a cut to his weekly wage for some job security and first team football. Hopefully he'll go. <ok>

I think with Gosling back next season Smith knows he'll get virtually no first team football here. At his age he needs to play. I reckon he'd accept a £30k p/w deal somewhere.

If he does go it'll certainly be on good terms, especially the way he contributed to our promotion last season. He certainly wouldn't be booed if he ever returns.

Can't see us letting Simpson go, he's been a pillar of strength and a zillion times better than Perch ever could be.

A move for Smithy would be a good thing for him if he wants a regular game. Would he want to play in Scotland though? I somehow don't think so.

He is, I remember he was dying to play them pre season but he might have missed the game. I think he would definitely go, and the fact he supports them would help with the wage cut.

I read this, why the hell is Simpson deadwood? He's our first choice RB and on decent form at the minute, and will no doubt improve over the upcoming years! (hopefully anyway)
Get rid of Simmo and I will not be happy.

Smithy can gladly go. Will miss him a bit I suppose but he deserves first team football and he just isn't gonna get that here. Plus, ya know, the whole wage thing.
