I was listening to Charlton Live last night and established , quite quickly. that there is a deep dislike of DM - i was out of the country for much of the Prem years - what was the problem with us and Murphy?
He made a secretary for the club cry when he physically grabbed her wrist and told her "watch his watch as it was worth more than what she gets in a year". Curbs found out and dropped him before KO and that was pretty much the end of him at CAFC. He was a vile, vile man.
He criticised our away support, and generally thought himself too good for us if I remember rightly. It's a shame because he's always been one of my favourite players.
Heard other things about him.. How he spoke to few of the youngsters, not turning up to club/fan commitments etc, but this is the only thing I can say with 100% confidence.
the one i heard he threw a punch on the training ground at either llyod sam or kelly younga not to sure who,or if a different player ,the story goes he had a massive fight on the training ground pitch and was fined 2 weeks wages and was then told by curb he was sacked but then he got his move 24 hours later ive heard this from several people in the north so got be something in it-i rem him giving bad stairs towards curb that game he was dropped
Well he was made captain at Fulham, a similar club to ourselves, so I don't know whether he's changed or the stories are exagerated?
charlton couldnt sack him at the time as they had just received an offer that night it all flared up but if no offer was made he was good as sacked what im lead to believe
Came from one of the former men at the top- no "north stand" sources here. As for him being fulham captain- couldn't possibly comment, but his behaviour got worse leading in to january in which it was speculated a few clubs were sniffing around. JA is right about a bust up with curbs before KO, but I've never heard about a fight.
trust me super on this i heard about the fight on the training ground pitch the day it happened and had it clarified by people in the stand that sat all i know super he was fined 2 weeks wages around 30k i think as im sure he was on 15k a week at time!i was either next home game sitting in west stand with a mate of mine and he was swearing and mouthing off curb big time he was not happy
It's possible your right as nothing would surprise me with him. Acted like a petulant moron towards the end. That said, i imagine he was on a bit more than 15k a week..
A lot of things deserve to stay within the club tewkes, but i believe people should know about how he behaved. The club received a lot if criticism for selling him in jan, and for a price a lot felt wasn't good enough(I agree), but it was just another sign of player power. Was good to see curbs take swift action with him though- he was never scared to go up against anyone who thought they were a big time Charlie. That was the season when bent signed if I'm right? Where we won the first 4 or 5 before losing to a beautiful crespo header at the valley- he took the plaudits for our early form, but got frustrated as he was ignored by England. Doesn't excuse how he treated the club and staff towards the end.
curbs in his later time since 2002 reminded me of brian clough why is he still unemployed?i think the board should make him director of football come on mr slater make another home comming possible
im sure cp and fans alike would love curb to return either as director of footy or on the board lets have a statue of the great man or name a stand after him
come on all hell and mary try and puswade curb return to se7-----------hes unfinished business at this club i think
Murphy deliberately got himself sent off against Arsenal when we were 1-0 down. Arguing with the ref and bouncing the ball away over a free-kick on the half-way line.
