I'm guessing by reading Danny Jackman's timeline, he is about the exit the club as expected. Really sorry to see him go and the wrong decision imo, however, I've said all I can say on this matter.
I like the player but I am sorry to say again, why the shock that a player who is not playing is leaving the club? He has done very, very little this season. Good luck Danny.
I wouldn't say shock that he's leaving, more shock that he hasn't had a chance in the team and that a centre back has been picked in his position ahead of him
Sorry which centre back has taken his postion... as far as I am aware Jackman spent most of last season at left midfield, a position now occupied by Weston.
He means that we would even play Frampton instead of him as Jackman can play central midfield. I believe that is what he means.
I would hardly say in that case a centre back has taken his position, Danny is too small for centre mid at this level.
DBG Dead right. Has never played poorly this season despite not being played in his best role, and his goal against Exeter was the best of the season. Ironically he is going when he is most needed. If Fish or Martin have a problem we now look forward to Frampton as stand in. In the absence of Payne, Montrose and Vincelot we no longer have the safe option of Jackman. He should, of course, have been first name on the teamsheet. MAdness!
Frampton (I think it was pretty obvious which centre back I meant - the one currently playing in midfield) I'd definitely class centre mid as one of Jackmans positions, albeit he has a few positions. Maybe I should have worded it as "one of his positions" but from memory he played centre mid a fair bit last year as well as left mid (which we never really filled properly with Whelpdale, Rooney, Jackman and Obita all having a go). He's certainly played there enough in his career to make a more credible argument that he's a centre midfield player than you can make of Frampton, who incidently looked like he was popping up at left mid by the GRS a bit anyway on Saturday when Whelpdale went right and Allen central for the 5-10 minutes before he went off. Anyway throwoff- my point in my original post is not that people are surprised that a non playing player has gone, as you suggested, but that it was a surprise that he hasn't played much this season. I'm not saying he would've been in my strongest 11 or is the answer to all our prayers, but I would pick him over Frampton in centre mid if given the choice, and would have rotated him into the team more than he has been. I also think he would have fitted into the left of the 4132 we were playing earlier in the season pretty well as it would have allowed him to play narrower than a lm in a 442, get on the ball and pass it, but with adequate cover from the centre midfield to prevent his size being exposed. Just feel it's a shame that a decent squad player more often than not failed to make the bench
In spite of two long term injuries during his second spell with us, he fought his way back to fitness and showed last season just what he is capable of. Del Boy might just have decribed him as 'Small, but bijou Rodney'. Maybe he will yet make a third term with The Cobblers! Good luck Danny Boy for an injury free future career.
sad to see him go, especially as ive always been of the opinion that if he was a foot taller he'd be playing at a much higher level that the gills
Danny Jackman has been good for Gills but obviously not rated by many managers or scouts it would seem. Otherwise he wouldn't be going to a non league side.
