I must confess that I was dreading last night's game. The prospect of going to Stoke without our DM was giving me nightmares!.

When you consider we shipped 4 goals at Blackburn when Tiote was missing, it didn't bode well!.

I thought Danny Guthrie was excellent last night and I make special mention of it because I have been very critical of him in the past.

I'm not entirely convinced he's the answer to Tiote's absence in January but he played well and deserves credit for his work rate and concentration.

Alan Pardew is really starting to make the players perform - all of them!

Guthrie outshone Cabaye who I have to say looked knackered last night. Good to see the lad is proving some people wrong, he is a very good player.

I still think there'll be a much sterner test against a team with actual Premiership quality centre mids, but he did have a cracker last night. Maybe its something to do with that Waddle-esque haircut he was sporting?

Playing for a contract guthrie? Or is he just happy he is being trusted to play in the middle? Either way apart from one time when he tried to play it to ober when we had 2 over on the left i can't remember him doing anything wrong. Good performance Guthrie

He did well last night and his performance against Blackburn in the Cup was also good. Hopefully when called upon he can maintain consistency.

    He's no Tiote though.

    When's Tiote back?

Don't mind playing Everton with Guthrie, but dreading the thought of playing City and United without Tiote

He was good last night but we'd miss Tiote's ball winning ability and physical presence against better footballing team. Guthrie is a good passer though and has a decent shot. He's showed in the past that he's capable cover.

I thought he was absolutely superb last night, I've always said if he's fit he's a very good player (Spurs & Man U last season). Think Pardew will now have a selection headache when Tiote's back, but Guthrie proved he is fantastic cover even if 3rd choice.

Guthrie was awesome. We can give Tiote more time to come back with the performances Guthrie has been putting in! Outshone Cabaye, who was tired though.

Wouldnt go that far - I expect Guthrie to be dropped when Tiote is back to full fitness. Its just good that we wont have to rush him back if Guthrie keeps performing like he has these last two games.

I have been very critical in the past, and I have to say it has all been justified. However I always think you must give credit when its due and Guthrie was excellent last night. He worked his socks off for the first time I can remember, and I can only remember one daft foul given away around the box (my biggest gripe with him). To me he looked slightly leaner, and it was nice to see a guy having to come off because they'd left it all on the pitch. I think if he is a bit fitter these days, he will improve massively because he has always given the impression there is natural talent there. Certainly the silly fouls will stop because he will not mind doing the running.

Am I convinced? No not on your nelly, same rules apply as anyone else, you have to do it consistently. But for now I have to say well done and hope it continues.

One thing though, sort your ****ing hillbilly hair out!

  16. He's not as good as Cabaye, even though i think he's been better over the last two games.

But he's a great player to have in your squad and i hope we offer him a new contract. If we could just keep him fit, he'd be a great player in the squad.

He's great cover for Cabaye, and i hope Abeid can cover Tiote so there for we'll have two good players to back up our first choice <diva>

He'll surely be putting Cabaye under pressure with performances like that though? Personally I'd go for Cabaye and Tiote in the middle every time, but Guthrie was much better than Cabaye last night and should at least be considered.

I like Guthrie but I've never seen him perform as well as we've seen Cabaye play at times this season so it'd be very unlikely. I agree though, if Guthrie replaces anybody it'd be Cabaye because theyre a similar sort of player.

Never rated Guthrie, but I'm starting to like him. Best grew on me eventually and hopefully Guthrie will too :)

He's no Tiote but I've always maintained he is a quality player when given a run of games, not unlike Barton or Cabaye with his style of play (although not as good). Very good last night, he even outshone Cabaye - who wasnt bad either.

On a more serious note, is that a mullet he's growing?
