Danny Guthrie (and other squad players)

I just read that Guthrie's contract runs out next year, and personally I think it should be renewed. He isn't great but is a squad player. What do you think?

I also think R. Taylor + Gosling are capable squad players and should be kept.

 

yup agree. Not likely do break into the first team IMO (for while at least) but can still do a job in situations like we're in now

 

We need him, we dont have enough depth in the squad. Good player, can do a job, wont be on big wages. Lets get his contract sorted, but its not priority. (Jose & Joey come first.)

Gosling will be pushing for the first team when he finally recovers from his injury/injuries.

 

Should definately give Guthrie a new contract, played well last season and has done well in his limited appearances this term

I fear he won't be offered a new contract. I really hope he is given one though, he was without doubt one of our best players last season and other than the West Brom game, he hasn't really put a foot wrong.

As said above, he will not be on big wages and is definately worth keeping. He is no Tiote but lets face it, Nolan has 3 years maximum left at this level if I am honest. Guthrie can be an ideal replacement for Nolan and is a good player to have in situations like now.

Danny Guthrie is an honest pro and very reliable and is a player I would like to keep at Newcastle.

Remember we have £35m to spend this summer. A striker and a right back (regardless of how highly you rate Simpson we need cover at the very least) are priority, but if there's any left over all the squad players places will be at risk. Personally I'd rather have Dorrans than Guthrie, in the short term he'd put pressure on Barton and Nolan, longer term he'd be a definite first teamer. He's a quality player already and he's still only 23. I think Guthrie's contract situation should be evaluated in the Autumn once we've put a dent in the Carroll money.

I would certainly like to keep him, very underrated and can come into the team and do very well, a very good passer of the ball and came up with 13 assists last season. I also remember reading he was on less than 10k a week, which I doubt is true, but I cant see him being on much more than 20k.

As for this summer, I'd like to see us in for 2 strikers, (one able to play on the wing like Gervinho), 2 midfielders (one AM/Winger like Kranjcar and DM cover when/if we sell Smith) and defensive cover (one or two different players, depending on how we evaluate Kadar).

 

Good squad player, and will fall into back up status very quickly when all are back from injuries. Midfield 4 will probs be:

Tiote
Nolan
Barton
HBA

Back ups:

Jonas
Ireland
Guthrie
Gosling


That looks a good squad, particularly with youngsters (Vuckic, Ferguson, Inman, Richardson etc) to play as well.

 

Kranjcar would be good and I think he'd come here, not so sure that Gervinho would want to come though.

 

Definitely should be renewed, he's a useful player

 

Why is everyone talking about having Ireland next year? He's only on loan.

 

Pardew has said he wants to try and get him on a permanent deal.

 

Guthrie's only on 4k a week apparently...

 

Decent squad player I suppose - wouldn't lose any sleep if he was sold/released though.

 

Danny is a very skilled young man. You are not seeing him play all the time but playing all the time people would be surprised. Joey, Kevin and Cheik are better but Danny is better than a lot of people.

I will be happy for him to stay a long time.
