Ian Stringer has just tweeted saying we have agreed a fee with Man U for Drinkwater and the deal could be sorted today. He pretty much destroyed us at the weekend, Nigel has always had a good relationship with Man U, Fergie praised us and Nigel for how he managed Tom Cleverley and Nigel took alot of players to Hull from Man U. We need to add something to the midfield and with Andy King picking up an injury i think this has forced Nigel to act quick. With us not playing until Monday there is no rush to get the deal done today.

If only Nigel had money to spend first time around, who knows we may have brought people like Tom Cleverley, Mark Davies, Jay Spearing, James Vaughan. But we never had enough money to get them.

Great signing by Nigel if it comes off

    Heres Stringers tweet
#lcfc are discussing personal terms with midfielder Danny Drinkwater today. Fee's been agreed with #mufc and he could be confirmed very soon

Ok so I'm guessing he's another central midfielder as I don't know much about him! Fine but surely other areas need strengthening!

Good signing as he can play in almost every midfield position - plus it means that we will be having a clearout soon as well.

Don't think we need anymore strikers proud, what we do need, is a better quality of midfield player, and def some width, cos Gallagher is def not the long term answer. And as bigfox says, hopefully a few additions will lead to a major clear out of some dead wood, of which there is plenty........

Sorry to intrude here, just got to point out that most of our Man Utd. youth came through the Adam Pearson - Warren Joyce link, as was confirmed by 2 of the Utd. lads at the OSC meeting earlier in the week. Nigel just agreed to take them on.

Drinkwater is a good player he'll surely help out your midfield no end. Although I struggle to see why Danns issn't getting any game time in the center, he's a really handy player there. NP did the same thing here with Koren, he only played about 5 games at most in the middle under Nigel, the rest were wasted out on the wing in favour of 2 defensive minded midfielders. His form and goals/assists return since Barmby took over speaks for itself as he's not played a minute away from central midfield.

It's worth noting our midfield was very poor and uncreative under NP too when Stewart was absent, there was no forward movement and the midfield players never made any forward runs, they just kept their shape sitting back.

I posted a thread praising Dann's performance on Tuesday night - Sven insisted on playing him out wide - Pearson has at least given him a central role and he demonstrated what he is capable of - I really liked him at Palace - he stood out.

    He's a centre midfielder.

If he gets played on the wing then i'll be pissed off.

Danns and Drinkwater for me, or to show faith in good performances, Danns and Wellens with Drinkwater appearing from the bench.

Actually, it's probably been the opposite here. Sven played him out wide and then he's worked his way back into the side as a central-midfielder and has arguably been the best midfielder since NP came back.

On Drinkwater, very impressed with him for Barnsley when they played us and he ran the show - exactly the type of midfielder we need. Wouldn't have him starting against Soton because Wellens and Danns don't deserve to be dropped but he'll add a different dimension.

So you don't think that he still has Warren Joyce in his contact book?

Warren Joyce may get a say but its down to Fergie what happens in the end

If Joyce has a grudge against Nigel it wouldnt stop us signing Man U players

AKCJs on your guess the first signing thread i dont think anyone saw this coming. I did say a kid from one of the big teams

Why would Warren have a grudge with Nigel?

He has helped develop some of his players, but as you say, it's all down to Fergie.

Yeah you're right, i'll dig it up and find who said what <ok>

    Keith Hill interview.

'Nicked a player that we've been developing' <laugh>

'He'll have a good financial package at Leicester'

'We're a million, million, trillion miles from Leicester'

Sounds like he doesn't like us, but he's wishing Danny all the best.

I think what Bob is saying is the reason we have so many United youngsters was nothing to do with Pearson. But more to do with existing relationships between us (Hull) and Warren Joyce.

Sorry for adding a post in the non Hull/Leicester banter section, I just felt it needed pointing out. I have been polite!

    <ok>
