Former Exeter City captain Danny Coles says he left St James Park because the club lacked ambition.
Coles, 32, moved to Forest Green after being transfer-listed and stripped of the captaincy for sending an offensive message to a fan on Twitter.
"The lack of ambition at Exeter with regards to the funds and stuff is something which I think will hold the club back," Coles told BBC Radio Devon.
City were forced to take out a loan after cash flow problems in the summer.
The decision to take money from the Professional Footballers Association meant the club were not allowed to sign players during the summer.
They were only able to clear the loan and enter the transfer market during the second week of the season.
"You get to certain point in your career where you need a fresh change," Coles added.
"I loved playing for Tis (Exeter manager Paul Tisdale), without a doubt he's one of the best managers I've played for and I still keep in touch with him.
"But it was an opportunity that I didn't want to turn down. This club's going places, it's very ambitious.
"I've taken a gamble stepping out of the Football League, but I've only done that by looking at the club and the players that are here, which are certainly capable of achieving something.
"I've not come here to see my career out, there's still things I want to achieve that can be done here."

Well thats a load of crap!

AGAIN - thats a load of crap!

He didnt leave Exeter due to them lacking ambition. Exeter wanted him gone http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28217780 Coles didnt have a choice in the matter. He was being forced out not leaving in his own free will due to lack of ambition from Exeter <doh>
He talks about he needing a fresh change and took a gamble on signing for a non league club but done so due to the club and player believing FGR was too good to turn down. In reality he was always going to get a fresh change if he needed it or not as Exeter wanted hom gone. FGR is most likely the only club who wanted Coles who is a 32 year old slow CB that has a history of doing bad things. FGR seems to like this sort of player. He was on the transfer list for a month. He didnt say to Exeter "I want to go to FGR as they got ambition blah blah blah". He was sat on the transfer list for a month knowing full well his career with Exeter was over. If we wanted to continue to play football then he had to accept FGR. They chose him, not him chose them due to the club and players as he claims.

You would have though after doing what he did at Rovers - offering to meet fans for a fight in the car park - that he would have learnt his lesson not to say certain things on social media. But no. He then did what he did at Exeter which he got put on the transfer list for and lost his captaincy for which was again for being abusive on twitter to fans. Then just a few weeks later he gets in trouble again via social media which he even tries to defend http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28471809

What a prat! Fits in well with the rest of the mob at FGR.
