"Sir Alex Ferguson is readying a bid for Roma contract rebel Daniele De Rossi. The Man United boss is in urgent need of midfield reinforcements following the loss of the likes of Tom Cleverley, Anderson and Darren Fletcher to injury and will look to lure the experienced Italian international to Old Trafford next month.

The 28 year old Rome born box to box midfielder has six months to run on his current contract and has stalled on signing a new deal as his Stadio Olimpico side experience a fairly average time of it in Serie A this season. Spaniard Luis Enrique is yet to spark the Giallorossi into life this season and they find themselves languishing in mid table.

De Rossi is now into his 11th season at his hometown club and is yet to secure a major honour or regular Champions League action and with Roma moving backwards, five Serie A runners-up finishes in seven seasons being followed by a sixth place disappointment last term and currently sitting in 10th place, a move to Man United may tempt the 70 cap midfielder.

As well as suffering with an injury crisis Sir Alex Ferguson is also keen to bring in a more steely presence in the centre of the park and De Rossi is known for his determined tackling and no nonsense physical approach, which may well lend itself well to life in the Premier League. However the World Cup winner is also a threat going forward and has an eye for goal, having netted regularly for club and country.

Roma may be loathed to lose one of their prized assets but may also opt to stand in the way of De Rossi’s decision if he does indeed decide that the time is right for a new challenge. It seems hugely unlikely that the loyal vice-captain would ever think about moving to another Italian side and this too may help Man United’s pursuit.

A number of other sides are said to be monitoring De Rossi’s contract negotiations with United’s local rivals Man City also strongly linked with the Roma man."

I know it's caughtoffside, but do you think it's at least looking into? With Fletcher out indefinitely, Anderson, and Cleverly out injured, we're short in the CM department.

De Rossi would provide that bit of steel we've been lacking the middle of the park, and with only 6 months left on his contract, we can probably get him for fairly cheap in January. This would also allow Jones to slot back at CB to cover for Vidic.

He would be a good signing for any team.He is a maniac though, which might put SAF off.

I expect us to be linked with a different midfielder every day till we either sign one or the window closes, journalists are putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5 with or lack of numbers and his contract expiring, as you say it is caughtoffside! .

If true could be a vital signing now especially after the news about Fletcher.

Just watched(drooled over) this video of De Rossi, imagine having a tough tackling, two footed CM that could both pass and shoot brilliantly, even if he is as mad as a box of frogs, I would carry the ****er over from Rome.

I think de Rossi would be brilliant. Been linked with us for years, probably since Keane left. Not to mention he probably scored the best goal when we beat them 7-1.

Sadly it is caughtoffside, but IMO he is the best available fix to our midfield, and the part about him being a maniac, would be a nice change from the utterly passive midfield we have now. Roy Keane was a bit crazy, and he wasn't too awful.
