a selection of quotes from him on twitter: https://twitter.com/raymondverheije i'm starting to think we should have gone for a coach with more star quality and vision than a man who has been associated with mediocrity in the past few years, however harshly he was treated by fulham. bringing in the numpty hartson, yes he's a passionate welshman but IMO the appoinment of kit symons as his assistant doesnt inspire me at all. if we finish badly in this next qualifying group then he should resign immediately, there is no excuse as outside england we have the best team in the british isles, expectations have risen and the last thing we need is to go backwards when we had the right formula.
Couldnt agree more Swamp ,Hartson a complete joke in the coaching department and Kit Symons is the iceing on the cake as doom and gloom . Yes people have said give them a chance first but Speed had got that youth and experience balance correct and you could see his infuence on the way the players performed . Dont like to knock the manager an coaching staff but i think this is 3 steps backwards now with these appointments .
I personally am behind him all the way, would I still love the old set up hell yes but that was never going to be the same again after losing Gary Speed as he was the glue that bound it all together. I think it took allot of guts for Coleman to step in his old friends shoes and I wont be knocking any decision he makes as I bet he is always thinking in the back of his mind that every decision he makes is always going to be ridiculed or knocked as its not how Gary would have done it. If results donât go our way it will be a shame and yes he will have to move on but at least a friend did what he thought was best with the hard work that had been done already. Rather than some other coach who may also have not got the results expected. This was always going to be a tough task for anyone as we all had such high hopes for the way Gary was going about things. I say give him his time if it goes wrong we have come back from worse before.
Agree with ccfcrt0p Was always going to be difficult for Coleman... Do well and Speed laid the foundations, do badly, you've undone all the good work Speed did. Coleman was the best available at the time of the appointment and while the appointments of Hartson and Symons aren't making me rush out and book a flight to Rio, CC is the National manager and will get my support until such a time as he leaves (or is sacked) Seems to me that Raymond is a still a tad bitter about not being offered the job.
Raymond is certainly getting a little less respect from me each time i see a comment from him. I am starting to think that he maybe has no class. At this point i would like to state that i know he under GS was doing a good job and maybe is just concerned about how things are turning out but as H says its starting to seem that hes just bitter.
I have worked with many Dutch folk over the years and there is one common trait they all have. Arrogance! Whether they are right or wrong they all possess an arrogance to believe they are always right and will not deviate from this view. A generalisation, perhaps, but in my experience also true.
Agree with Taff and H. Just another bitter, self opinionated Dutchman. A good coach but he chose to move on so he needs to deal with that and himself.
i agree he is bitter but remember he was a part of a very successful spell for welsh football, the current setup is totally incompetent IMO, and although i want coleman to succeed i wouldnt put money on it. a very even group. 4th place is the minimum requirement as teams will take points off each other. times have changed and now we go into this group with the best group of players we've had since the hughes reign.....
SKM Last part very true but how anyone can say the set up is incompetent until we get into the competitive arena I don't know. Hartson is not technically great in the role but he will get the players up for it and ready to go in every game. Many people were critical of Gary until he started getting results - and his beginning was not good. Okay Coleman was not successful as a club manager (although his time at Fulham wasn't bad) but did Gary set the world on fire at Sheff. Utd? Give Coleman and his team a chance. If the results don't go for us and Scotland will be a very good measure of this then we have the right to be critical but not until then.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Coleman does in this job and I hope it goes well for him. I had a lot of respect for him as a player and I wish him well in managing the country that he clearly loves. As BfB says, it's far too early to form an informed opinion on his international management career. I think Hartson will be hugely intrumental in firing up players and, getting them to turn up and play for their country. I just hope that the new set up gets professional support from FAW.
Don't disagree with any of this. I don't think Coleman has the managerial skills for Prem level let alone international. A few good seasons at Fulham and nothing since. Bringing in Symons and Hartson was a poor choice. Hope we're all wrong for the sake of Welsh football. Remember that most of us were not that happy when Speed was appointed either.
I personally think verheijen saw the potential wales has and how the FAW seem to be trying their best to ruin every chance of us succeeding. I guess i'm on 'team verheijen'. Wales need a modern manager.
