QPR ready to raid Burton Albion again - Hasselbaink wants a defender now 13:44, 12 MAY 2016 UPDATED 13:45, 12 MAY 2016 BY PAUL WARBURTON Rangers chief looks to target the devil he knows at the Pirelli rather than risk precious money on untried and untested from elsewhere please log in to view this image In demand: Damien McCrory Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has Damien McCrory on the QPR wish list - and all it needs is a better wage offer than modest Burton’s to secure the out-of-contract player. The 26-year-old left sided defender cum wingback ticks all the Rs boxes of adaptability, goal-scoring, and affordability - as well as plugging the pesky left-back spot. Rangers have gone down the route of plucking the best from lower leagues and polishing. And though Hoops have heralded a new dawn of watching the pennies, newly promoted Burton pay even less on average gates of 4,000. Leicester loanee Paul Konchesky, James Perch and Jack Robinson all appeared on the Rs left last season with varying degrees of success. Yun-suk-Young was allowed to leave at the end of his contract, so JFH needs at least one extra option as he rebuilds on a budget for next term. Irishman McCrory helped Burton to the League Two title in 2014-15, and won international caps for his country at under-18 and under-19 levels. His five goals in 36 appearances under Hasselbaink in the Burton League Two title campaign adds an extra incentive to reunite him with left midfielder Nasser El-Khayati who joined Rs in February for £350,000. http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/qpr-ready-raid-burton-albion-11323045?
I never heard of him. Born in Limerick I believe. They tend to be tough from that city. Here's hoping he might be decent.
Is it true that Jack Robinson had 'varying degrees of success'? The lad barely got any playing time and he seemed good from the little we saw of him. Am I wrong?
So we are 'plucking the best from lower leagues and polishing'? That polish doesn't seem too good at present...
At what age did Ian Wright make his debut? And Jamie Vardy - he got an opportunity at Fleetwood before being snapped up. He is what 28 / 29 years of age? Granted there maybe be 10,20 or even more Bob Malcom's before you hit gold but he has worked for JFH before and he is known to him and not us. Let's give the boy a chance IF he comes here rather than shoot him down before he (if he comes) even gets here.
It's got to be this. We used to be a small club living cleverly, modestly and successfully within our means. Two decades of asset stripping, being a boutique club and a branding platform please log in to view this image please log in to view this image have got us here. We have to get back to what we once excelled at and part of that was hoovering up overlooked lower league talent and managing our own expectations of a club subsisting on gates of less than 18,000. We had a brief glimpse as Warnock assembled a group that outperformed the sum of it's parts, before Fernandes reintroduced the wonderfully destabilising concept of revolving door management again. I genuinely haven't a clue about McCrory, but Burton's defence has been rock solid and JFH knows him and what he can do. Worth a punt IMO.
For every Wright there are thousands of wrongs. We need good established Championship or Lower Prem players.
Lower prem players wouldn't be interested in us now our over paying for ****e days are thankfully over...it's polishing untried gems we need...
Really irritating - no recognised right back and we are looking at yet another left back - ffs there is not a fan in the country that can't see this... wtf are they doing? I really hope this is newspaper nonsense.
