Racing today comes from Bath, Catterick, Lingfield, Kempton, Worcester and Nass.

I've been a huge fan of UK racing since joining the BBC606 site a few years ago. In that time I've struggled to find a favourite track, that was until I was introduced to Polytrack racing. Pure heaven. Since then however, I've managed to stumble across Catterick, thanks to Ron, who made mention of the place in a post. Who wouldn't love a track that hosts a downhill 5 furlong course. So I've taken it upon myself to become the forum's unchallenged titleholder of "The Catterick 5 Furlong Specialist."

And so it is that I kick off my reign with a winner in the first race, the 14:20. The favourite The Dancing Lord looks to have the pace to take advantage of the nice gate. Hopefully he'll ping the stall, charge straight to the front, and defy them to run him down.

    Morning Cyc,

Today is one of those frustrating days in which the bookmakers are not giving anything away on the horses I like!!

Bath 2.40 - I think this race is for Hidden Passion to win, however she is odds on and far too short for a bet.

Catterick 2.20 - Another race that looks pretty straightforward and the one I would be with is The Dancing Lord. This horse has good winning form in better races and I think he will prove too good for this field, even off top weight. I think Lady Caprice could be the main danger, she has the headgear on for the first time and could improve to figure in this race. He is too short to back today though with questions over Lady Caprice's headgear.

Kempton 6.50 - A very interesting maiden with some nicely bred newcomers taking on lightly raced sorts from good yards. I think those with experience will figure in the finish and I think Godolphin's Mahkma is the one they all have to beat, however I do think Fresa and Pindrop are both interesting sorts and both could improve to win this. Its not a betting race but I do want to watch this one back for the future.

Lingfield 4.00 - Piranha - The second nursery of the season, and we get to see a very interesting filly run off a mark of 75. She is a scopey filly who improved for a drop back down to the minimum trip last time out at Kempton Park. She travelled very well that day and went away from her main rivals with a good deal of ease, I liked that performance and I think her mark is more than fair. 10/11 BOG 1pt win.

Lingfield 4.30 - Bareback - John Best runs a very interesting debutant who is bred for the sprinting game and I think he would only have to be of average ability to win this on debut. I also think he will probably be overpriced against more experienced rivals. 12/1 EW 0.5pt

Don/Dan: Hope you get plenty of good days with the filly. Time will tell and hopefully she will click soon.

Yorkies: Good to have you aboard mate :emoticon-0150-hands<ok>

Far better forum where 99.9% are chilled out and enjoy it, Ron runs it very well indeed too.

Morning all, hope all is well. Cheers for all the messgages. Echo Danbo's comment.

Couldnt pick my nose at the moment so no betting today!! Only strongly fancied Light the city in the last but had done my money by that time so had my smallest bet of the night!!

Some very interesting action in the betting ring at Southwell last night. There was one guy who backed Stamp Duty in from 11-1 into 11/2 on his own. He was on his hands free with his racing post all clipped up. He ran along the bookies putting as much on as he could with all of them. Then was diving behind one bookie to look at Betfair. He then went back to every bookie just before the off to confirm his bets.
All very odd as the horse was never even close and came last!

Patriotic is a next time winner im pretty sure.

Cyc, funny you mention Fast Shot, if I was to back anything at Catterick it would be that horse. I won't back The Dancing Lord unless I can get close to evens about him.

Morning, all. Actually like a couple today. Both of which are running down at old Lingers Park. They are:

Ishikawa (2.30) - my regular readers will fondly recall this winning for me back in May and I think Ishikawa can follow up in this 9 furlong handicap. Was quite green on that occasion and has obviously been given time to mature following his initial win. Looks quite progressive and I expect this one to 'bring the bounty, back to the
    county' this afternoon.

Crowning Star (4.30) - I was very taken by this one in the Brocklesbury back in March when he stayed on in an eye-catching manner to take 3rd place. Has been a bit disappointing since though at Leicester and then last time out at old Royal Ascot. However, I'm going to keep the faith and a combination of a step down in grade and a step up in trip will I think be enough to see Crowning Star get home ahead here.

Good luck to all who wager today.

Cyclonic, funny you've mentioned Catterick- the racecourse I hate the most. I went there once to a New Year's Day meeting and, though you probably don't know, we often get New Year gales blowing in the UK, and Catterick's particularly open to the wind and bad Yorkshire weather.
Well, it was Force 9 that New Year's Day, and we nearly turned the car round and headed back over the border into Lancashire. When we got there, they'd put the race back half an hour. The ploy was obvious- get everyone onto the course and then call it off. Racing had no chance of taking place, and a fence actually completely disintegrated and blew away in front of us!
We asked for our money back, but all we got was a scrawny voucher to come back later in the year.
There's no way I'd go back there. I don't know what it's like now, but in the seventies it was the tattiest racecourse I'd ever seen- flaking paintwork on wood rejected by Noah's Ark!
If any member has been there recently, I'd appreciate a view on what it's like now.

Embrace the pain Tam, it's good for the soul. <laugh>

As the reigning king of Catterick tipping, I love the place.

    One bet today:

    21:10 Worcester - Midnight Myth e/w

(Filly made decent bumper debut at Southwell 4-weeks ago, stayed-on well after running a bit green early on).

(Tamerlo: Plumpton, a while ago on a wet and windy winter day, took some beating I can tell you. Apparently, it's a lot better now?).

Tam: As i frequent the course regularly and have done for many years i understand where you are coming from.

All i can say is they have done a lot of work on the upkeep, the course itself is in good nick but it is what it is, a Northern track. I love the place but i guess that's becasue it is only 5 minutes away :emoticon-0103-cool:

The Grandstand and on-course buildings are not in the best shape but the staff and locals (farmers you would probably say LOL) are very friendly indeed and you get excellent value from the bookies if you get to the ring straight after the previous race. The Parade Ring is very good and you always get a nice view.

The courses claim to fame is that Youmzain ran his first race there and won doing the proverbial 'handstands' with the jockey actually 'laughing' at his only competitor! Cannot remember the name but it was a Mark Johnston trained horse and the market was turned on its head with Youmzain getting backed from odds against to long odds on!

I would suggest going to one of the summer evening meetings (ladies night on Fri 12 Aug) is always a good evening or try another winter fixture when the snow/sleet is not quite as bad, i think you will be pleasantly surprised mate.

  17. Agree there The Don, i think its a lovely racecourse set in teh heart of the North Yorkshire countryside and skirted by the largest Military Garrison in the UK it is well attended.

I have posted up some picture of Dappers Dancer in the parade ring at Catterick in my album, with the sun shining it has a different feeling, however, like anywhere with a Force 8 blowing and grey skies it can seem the worst place in the world.:emoticon-0100-smile

18.20 I think Mahkama should win this but Pindrop at 7/1 could run into a

place following a promising debut run. I don't like going against Teofilo

fillies. I don't know how much a correct forecast would return but for fun I

would have these 3 in reverse forecasts and hope to clear 6 points.

19.20 King Ferdinand could follow up his easy recent win before he gets hit by the handicapper.

20.20 Making Eyes should win this, my only reservation being it's her first

    time on polytrack
