A very good morning to all members. Today’s Flat Racing comes from Doncaster, Carlisle, and Kempton’s all-weather meeting- with jump races at Galway and Uttoxeter. Doncaster hosts the first day of its St Leger meeting, and winners look quite hard to find. In the last race, however, I find Chris Dwyer’s Commanche particularly interesting. For the first time this season, he runs over the minimum trip of five furlongs. After winning twice in June over six and seven furlongs, he stepped up to Grade 4 but has just been found wanting in his last four runs at six furlongs- but placed in three of his four races. Now that the ground has eased a little, the step back to five furlongs may be right up his street on this galloping track. His high draw should help but I particularly like his rider, Robert Tart, who claims the five pounds allowance. Robert has a fantastic strike rate of 39% recently, having ridden 7 winners (for 7 different trainers) from his last nineteen mounts. He’s worth every pound of his allowance. Hopefully, he has a great each way chance off his mark of 76. Commanche (5.15 Doncaster). Best price 16/1 (various). Each way bet recommended.
Telegraph FANTASY league - Upcoming Races I guess some of us sometimes 'miss' selections - beer , lunch or the excitement of normal life seem to get in the way ... so just a quick reminder to all entrants that there are some upcoming races this week - if we can all select then we have a BIG chance to get to the top of the league and put Princess Nkt at the top of the tree ... happy punting ! Morning, troops. Hope everyone well. Very respectable racing today and Iâll nominate one âooooooooooooooop Northâ on Day 1 of the old St Leger Festival. Gatewood (4.10 Doncaster) â was one of the big improvers of last term as he won 4 races (including at Royal Ascot and in Group company) and in doing so saw his perch rise over a stone a half from an opening 86. An excellent 2nd in last Augustâs Group 2 Grand Prix De Deaville (beaten a short neck by the subsequent Arc 3rd) was then followed by a trip âDown Underâ where the highlight, from 7 starts, was a victory in the Group 3 £200,000 Geelong Cup. Following that race Gatewood left the care of old boy Gosden to be trained at a local yard. Although he didnât trouble the judge thereafter it should be pointed out that his last 3 efforts were all in Group 1 company and Gatewood was by no means disgraced. Now back on these shores and reunited with old boy Gosden the horse steps down markedly in class today and therefore I take him to oblige against 4 rivals who all, to some extent, have questions to answer here. Admittedly, you do have to take Gatewoodâs fitness on trust, but old boy Gosden knows how to ready one after a break and the stable had a first time out winner yesterday. 3/1 is currently available and that strikes me as Appealing with a capital âAâ. As always, good luck to all.

Very surprised to see Chaninbar entered over at Galway this evening. I understood the sulky bugger had been banned from all racing but obviously doesn't extend to Ireland. Last 2 starts over a year ago were on all weather and he failed to pass a single competitor. Prior to that he's got a sprinkling of the dreaded Rs in his form. Surprisingly the bookies are only offering a best price of 12s. He should be at least that just to start! I obviously have a soft spot for this enigmatic character and it goes back to April 2010 at the Aintree festival. Burdened with my dough he was extremely reluctant to come out onto the track and then bolted to the start. The jockey struggled to pull him up to line up. In my head I'd already ripped up my betting slip. His subsequent wide margin success was one of the more remarkable victories I've witnessed. Would I risk a penny on him this evening? Not a fooking chance! Though I hope he consents to run a gives Nick Schofield a good spin as it appears he's gone over to Galway just for this ride - jockey must be nearly as mad as the horse. A little ew lucky today on Gatewood at Doncaster, Cause of Causes at Galway, Thoresby at Uttoxeter and Dance for Georgie at Carlisle. Good luck all.
Hello and goodbye! Today is unusually, a no bet day for me - not because I couldn't be arsed but domestic situation will take me away from TV! Looked at the 3-00 at Donny - well done if you get the winner - I'd love Borderlescott to get this, but there are too many factors to consider and I have to get a wiggle on. Good luck lads
Afternoon all, Finally some half decent racing! Cant wait for the jumps start have been planning my meetings for the year I agree with Barney on Gatewood! Won me some dough last year and am excited to see hwhat kind of form he is in today only a small stake for some interest but pretty confident he can out run this lot today!
Did anyone else just watch the 2:10 at Uttoxeter? Toughness Danon 16/1 pretty much planted himself at the start giving the rest a 25+ length lead. Managed to slowly get back to the pack and took it up jumping the last to win going away!! £427 matched at 999/1 on Betfair - ouch!! If you haven't seen it, give it a watch if possible - one of the most extraordinary things I have seen in racing. Edit: Just checked and Betfair forum is buzzing about this lol!! Near half a million liability after the first 2f!!
I certainly did see it and was quite sick to see TD come from where he did given i had Oculist backed ...ahhh. Well done the person who got on at 999/1 , pretty sweet. In fairness TD looked like he was gonna throw in a run like that soon *whistles*
roger varian has now won with seven of his last eight runners- the only one that didn't--i put up on here --and it was ridden by a certain mr spencer....could be coincidence , but i think maybe not....tonight he runs two at kempton with Tenor surely his main chance, with herbah in the maiden havin a bad draw to overcome. Ol mr. jarvis would be proud...
2 999/1 winners in a space of half hour! Danas presnet won at 999/1 in running cant beleieve it! Imagine someone backing it twice or even worst the person laying at those odds twice!!
Looking at Carlisle's 5.05 as was conmsidering backing Pacific Heights. Now in from 3/1 to 9/4 am umming and ahhing about whether that represents value. Also noticed that Barron's Suits Me has been backed in from 14's to 11/2. Looks a bit exposed to me, but someone clearly doesn't thinks so. Anyone have a view?
I put up 5.15 Doncaster Threes Grand 6/1 when successful on her last start and I think Scott Dixon's 3 year old should have a very decent chance of following up again off a 6lb higher mark.
Drever: My better half has not the slightest interest in horseracing and we rarely discuss it, but I managed to drag her in from the living room to watch the video replay on my PC. She watched the whole thing, and after a pause, remarked 'the horse must have a good doctor'. Just like that!
