Not going overboard on this one but I have a sneaking suspiscion that we may see some improvement from BIRDY BOY 14-1 4.10 Southwell tomorrow. He comes from a yard that you would expect better from. He has looked onepaced over 6 and 7 furlongs and his pedigree screams miler. Having watched his recent runs that looks to be the case. He ran quite well two runs ago here over seven and tomorrows mile may see enough improvement in him to run a big race. I would say that the market will provide the clues but after today I am no longer sure! Good luck if you play.
No No Bingo 6/1 - Market Rasen 3:30. Hoping he can bounce back tomorrow after something went amiss lto and he had to be pulled up but i'm certian they wouldn't run him if he wasnt't ready for it. Has been in goodform of late and at 6's i will back him each way as i can't see him out of the 3 but very hopeful he will put up a good showing.
Some really good knowledge on here tips etc . Cheers Stick - I have noticed you have tipped a couple of Caroline Baileys horses over last few weeks . She runs GALWAY JACK in the 3.30 at Market Rasen tomorrow. What do you think it's chances ? Gazman
My take on the 3.30 as I have been asked. GALWAY JACK is a lovely consistent ex point to pointer. The yard is near my parents home and we get info occasionally. Not heard anything about this one but I think he wants a bit further. He will be winning soon though. NO NO BINGO got hammered by the handicapper when winning a short head the time before last. I really cant see him winning off this mark. Ballinroab has been eased a few pounds, lightly raced he is open to bags of improvement. THE BLACK BARON is on a very handy mark. Not heard anything from connections but he should be winning very soon, ground may just be on the soft side, one to be on this spring. NOT SO SURE DICK has some tasty form in the book, he has gone well fresh in the past and it looks like the yard quite fancy him. The MAGIC BISHOP is near a winning mark but this may just be a tad sharp for him these days. O'CROITAGH loves it round here, has conditions to suit and is a mighty big price. The handicapper has dropped him again for a lack lustre performance last time. If being at his favourite track perks him up he would be a belting price at 16-1. He would be my tentative pick but a race to swerve as my analysis bears out! See the Johnston horse has halved in price! Oh no not again!!!!
1.40 Southwell Supa Seeker 16/1 NAP Although this 7 year old is a 17 race Maiden with only one place to his name (back in 2010) I fancy him to go close to landing this really weak looking Amateur Riders Handicap as I think he is going to find an awful lot of improvement now switched to fibresand for the first time. Tony Carroll's gelding is clearly well handicapped (if you can say that about a horse who has never won) on some of his old form which includes getting beaten not too far off a mark of 63 back in July 2011 and if he is ever going to strike its going to be off this basement mark of 46. The primary reason I am forecasting a big run from Tony Carroll's charge is on his breeding as his Sire Petionville's progeny have an excellent record at Southwell. Only two of his progeny (McConnell and Forfeiter) have run at Southwell before where they boast an excellent combined record of 10 wins and a place from 24 starts and judged on that Supa Seeker should not only handle the surface but improve on it. Moreover, Supa Seeker's half sister Supaheart was only beaten 1L on her only start at the track so encouragement can also be taken from the dams side of the breeding. With regards to this 7 year old's recent form, I felt he ran a very encouraging and not at all knocked about 4th at Wolves back in December in a race where the first and third have scored subsequently and his last effort can be excused as he was tardy away from the stalls. Its always risky backing in these Amateur Riders contests which is typified by only 5 of the 13 riders ever riding a winner but I definitely think the trainers son Charlie Carroll is definitely one of the better riders in the contest and he has 1 win from 11 rides to his name and he claims a very valuable 5lb. I've looked back through some of his rides and I was actually pretty impressed with him, especially a ride he gave Polar Auroras where he threw everything he possibly could at him and, based on that effort in the saddle, I certainly have no qualms about backing him in this event. I'm quite happy with the draw in stall 12 as it gives him options with regards to race tactics and even if he is a step slow away it probably wouldn't be detrimental. Given that Supa Seeker seems tactically versatile, I would love to see him sit just in behind what normally is a frantic pace in these contests and also have the option to take up the running if the pace is slow. I really hope he's not hell bent on making the pace, however, as he could easily get into a crazy battle which could see him go off miles too quickly out in front. I think sitting close to the pace is going to be crucial to every horses chances tomorrow as, in addition to it being hard to come from off the pace at Southwell generally, a lot of these jockeys won't be able to get enough out of their horses to make up the ground and I will be very dismayed if Supa Seeker gets quite a bit behind early. Obviously Supa Seeker comes with an awful lot of risks attached given that he is winless in his entire career but this most definitely represents (in my opinion) by far his easiest opportunity to date and if he can't grab it I don't think he'll ever win. I'm slightly concerned that the 1m3f trip may stretch him slightly (inconclusive if he stays this far) but if he builds up a lead in the home straight that may not even matter. All in all if he improves for the switch to fibresand and is given a positive ride by young Charlie Carroll, if he isn't able to win tomorrow off a mark of 46 then I'm not sure his racing career will continue much longer.
It seems the 3.30 Market Rasen is attracting a lot of betting interest already. It will be a tight race I feel where half a dozen look to have a decent chance of winning. I quite fancy my selection however and It appears Dominic Elsworth has gone there just to ride it. Market Rasen 3.30 Balbriggan 7-1
Leopardstown Racecourse Going Report GOING REPORT for SATURDAY 9th FEBRUARY 2013 Issued at 9.00am on 4th February 2013. GOING: after a settled weekend the Hurdle track is SOFT, YIELDING TO SOFT IN PLACES, Chase track is SOFT TO HEAVY, SOFT IN PLACES FORECAST: Strong winds with sunny spells and chance of passing showers. If those showers don't amount to much then the Hennessy should be run on something like yielding to soft, soft in places. Perfect
Morning, team. Nothing for me today but it will be very interesting to see how the horse that those Pipe's named after me gets on in the 2.00 heat at old Market Rasen. I've never been a great fan of there's but must admit to being quite touched by this gesture. Oddy, have you seen the entries for the 'Irish Hennessy'?!? Very poor. Only 8 and as one of those runs today then numerical its going to be a low turnout. Quality wise its just as bad with only 2 beasts rated above 160! Can't understand why the UK based handlers have totally ignored the race given that the winner alone gets €92,000!
It won’t be interesting to see how old boy Barney Cool gets on at Market Rasen as he now ain’t running! ‘Pricewise’ has tipped up Unioniste, at 12/1, in the RSA Chase this morn so expect to see him clipped a few points as a result.
It does beggar belief Sir Barney, but I was reading a piece in the Irish Independent yesterday which voiced concerns over the race's proximity to the Cheltenham Gold Cup and its merit as a trial over the years. The only thing that interests me in the race is seeing Flemenstar tackle 3 miles again, this time witout Andrew Lynch pulling his head off after every fence - he will be allowed to bowl along and enjoy himself. I can see something quite special happening.
Morning all Good to see the flat racing back on over at Southwell today. One i do like the look off today is in the 3.40 aswell. The horse in question is BANDSTAND. He has a good record here winning his last 2 races over C/D and previous to that he has come 2nd on 2 ocassions. To boost my confidence a little more he won this race last year. Currently around the 4/1 mark but did open up around 6's. Win bet for me today.
"The day turned darker yet for the sport, with Mujamead breaking a leg in a later race, and Desert Vision also put down at Wolverhampton" Spare a thought for these horse and the connections of all who lost their lives yesterday on the racecourses. Very sad to hear about all of them. Nothing for me today, I am waiting for better opportunites later in the week. Good luck all.
Going to take on the Mullins shorties with Rock Critic in the first at fairhouse, he holds an entry for the supreme and won nicely LTO
I thought so too, the Giggingstown horse is no slouch so i wonder if Rock Critic may be a little special?
