Today's racing comes from Wetherby and Taunton (National Hunt) and Southwell Sands on the flat. "Human history becomes more and more a race between education and catastrophe." - H. G. Wells Biggest race of the day in terms of numbers is the "Follow Wetherby Racecourse On Facebook & Twitter Handicap Hurdle" where 19 go to post. Top weight Moose Moran has some pretty impressive addresses on his CV - Warren Place and Seven Barrows - but unfortunately hasn't got any form to match. Now with David Pipe he takes a significant step up in trip and drop in class from his latest run behind Ranjaan and should be watched for any strong market moves. At the opposite end of the field we have the most likely winner in the shape of Seven Is Lucky. Jim Goldie's gelding hacked up by 12 lengths in a conditional jockey's handicap last week and carries no penalty for that success, going off the same mark of 90 today. In fact he is 3lbs lower today as Henry Brooke is allowed his claim in this race (wasn't last week). Just above Seven Is Lucky in the weights is Grand Art. His last 2 victories over hurdles (off 103 and 100 - he goes off 98 today with the jockey taking off 5) have come immediately after a run on the flat and he was last seen over 1m6f at Southwell and he could be an interesting e/w alternative today.
Just the one bet for me today, as he popped up on my tracker 16.15- Taunton Clever Dick Ran very well at fontwell LTO on heavy ground and considering he ran on the heaviest part of the course too. Also this horse was bought as one to follow on ATR but this horse will definately get better over time and Expect him to win today.
Is Vitznau, that horse of so much forum contention in recent times, set to make his hurdling bow in Saturday's Dovecote Hurdle?!? One of the more baffling race entries of recent times, methinks.
Stop the press, I have had two bets today. They both run in the 4/1 offer races (coincidence). 2.40 Rathnaroughy - Ran well for a long way on debut for the yard, and given over a month to come on for that debut. The horse ran with plenty of promise and shouldn't be 16/1. EW. 3.40 Higgy's Rigazzo - ran a really taking race on penultimate start before a poor effort in a very decent handicap last time out. I think on his penultimate effort he would have to be overpriced. 14/1 EW.
Great spot Barney, seems like they have given up on the AW, looks like an interesting entry. Just got 5000/1 EW on him
An excellent days acing today with some lovely looking bets in the offing, so i will be mostly backing double figure priced winners and places all day. Good luck to everyone who plays today, happy punting fellow moonfruits
Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen. It is a fine morning where I am so can only hope that the weather is shining so brightly where you are. Today's action looks fair for mid-week and a few take the eye, most notably Loose Preformer in the 3.15 at Wetherby. Mr Henderson nominated him as his Festival 'Dark Horse' for the 4m National Hunt Chase so must surely be expecting a decent showing in this handicap. It looks a competitive little race but 9/2 might be worth a small investment. Also looking forward to seeing Urbain De Sivola again who has become something of the forgotten horse in the Triumph Hurdle. It seems a little strange that Nicholls drops Duallo Lord down to 2m1f. He started him over 3m for his hurdling debut. In other news, Sprinter Sacre has been rated 169 for his Newbury stroll. That was achieved head in chest, hard on the snaff, or however you would like to put it. And in context, that is easily good enough to win any of the past 10 renewals of the Arkle. And it looks thoroughly deserved as far as I can tell.
Love all of the cliches being used here, why cant people just speak English, edited above. No offence but keep it simple stupid for those around here that dont understand horsey jargon, Accuracy, Brevity, Clarity.
I do apologise Diamond Edge. I am sure the following would have added much more to the forum so for your benefit . . . Nice weather. Loose Preformer 3.15 Wetherby Nap. Urbain De Sivola runs. Sprinter Sacre rated 169.
Nothing wrong with a well-furnished vocabulary Diamond Edge. Where would we be if Wordsworth had written "I walked about on my own"?
Hard on the snaff?- He was fighting hard on the snaffle (which is a kind a of bit for those who dont know.) So basically trying p*** round the course as fast as he could but Barry wasnt letting hm
