Ladbrokes are currently offering 11/1 on ROCK OF DEAUVILLE in the 2.35 at Newbury. It could look a massive price in the end because Paul Nicholls makes no secret about the fact that this horse works very, very well at home, and I believe once remarked that 'he makes Celestial Halo look stupid'. However, with his ability comes temperament, hence his dsappointments this season so far.

At the end of last season, he was upsides and travelling strongly when falling 2 out in a class 2 event at Ascot, and his 6th place in the Fred Winter, in my book, puts him potentially as well as 15lb well in. That said though, the horse has got to want to win.

However, Harry Derham claims 7lb off tomorrow, meaning he runs off just 105. Derham has worked the oracle on some of Nicholls hurdlers already this season and if he can't win off 105, then I'm not convinced he ever will. He is frustrating, so make no bones about it you are taking a chance if you back him tomorrow.

I would be amazed if he went off at 11/1 and suspect he'll be closer to 6s come post time.

Best of luck whoever you back tomorrow.

God awful day to be at work with so many cracking races.

I see they're having another crack with Rathlin in the first at Thurles - will experience give him the edge of Mullins/Walsh runner?

Grands Crus should win today but I do fancy Viking Blond to make a real race of it and that could be the forecast bet at rewarding odds.

Best bet of the day for me is Buffalo Bob (NAP) in the 2.45 Newbury - ground and trip will suit, has had a pipe opener and the claimer takes off 7 <ok>

    Best of luck everyone

Oddy,I think Rathlin prefers better ground and 2m rather than 2m2f.He has been disappointing and Bishopfurze arguably has the better hurdle form in any case.

I selected him at the start of the week as my only weekday bet but won't be playing at those odds considering his jumping over hurdles was far from fluent.

Good little race but prices too short to entice a bet.

12.20 Uttoxeter SAGA DE TERCEY 5/1 (BOG)

I like the look of this 6yo gelding on his hurdling debut this afternoon. He was a most impressive winner of a bumper back in March 2009 for Alan Swinbank and has since developed in to a smart flat performer (progressed to 88). He has been off for over 500 days but has since joined the Donald McCain yard and I think the yard will have him spot on for this.

12.30 Newbury - KENTFORD GREY LADY 5/2 (BOG) (NAP)

Really think this one will win today - as Stick says hasn't been given the best rides so far this season. Should relish the step up in trip as well.

    12.35 Thurles - BISHOPSFURZE 5-4 (BOG)

One of my biggest bets of the season so far so he better stand up. Taking a chance because as Quel said his jumping was poor last season. Hopefully he will show the fences more respect and I do think he he has a lot of class.
