So here we are, already. The flat season has yet again whisked on by at lightning speed with various highlights to look back on, which in fact make this race the 'puzzle' it has appeared in the build-up this week.

We had a superb winner of the Derby in the shape of Pour Moi and it is great misfortune to not have him in the race. And of course the awesome Rewilding, who sadly lost his life at Ascot having beaten the big fancy for todays Arc with a storming late run. <peacedove>

We all know that the statistics show you have to be pretty exceptional to win from a draw such as Sarafina and So You Think's. They might well be, and in fact I think So You Think is phenomenally similar to his sire that it is frightening- good stamina, cruising speed, and a great battler. It gives him every chance, but he will need the cards to drop right.

The ground has raised all sorts of issues and Frankie Dettoris analysis after riding there today is that it is 'Good' ground by English standards, which is pretty quick at this time of year for Longchamp and undoubtedly it helps his mount, Snow Fairy.

My ante-post bet for this race is ST NICHOLAS ABBEY a 85/1 which I matched on Betfair and whilst on his last two runs he has something to find with the principles, he has ran two cracking races on a solid surface- an excellent Chester Grp3 win and a superb effort to outstay Midday down the Epsom hill. The ground IMO will suit him if not watered again, though the main worry is a) He might be used as a pace angle and b) Joseph O Brien's inexperience.

My one to watch isHiruno D'amour who has late support, ther right conditions, and an excellent trial resut.

Realistically SYT will have thr measure of the Ballydoyle lot, but you never know and I'l enjoy the race wither way.

Agree with you on the Asian imports could be very dangerous, as for St Nicholas Abbey i think its a good ew bet.I wouldn't be suprised if a long shot takes this.

Race profile:

Workforce. The tree Paddies who built the Arc De Triomphe-or were there only two?
St Nicholas Abbey. The chimney where Father Christmas prays.
Silver Pond. Lone Ranger’s watering hole.
Hiruno D’Amour. Japanese sex aid.
Nakayama Festa. Kung Fu party.
So You Think. What the android said to Aidan O’Brien.
Sarafina. French good time girl.
Snow Fairy. Arctic puff.
Treasure Beach. Metal detector’s paradise.
Meandre. French Alzheimer’s Disease.
Masked Marvel. Parliamentary bank robber/expenses manager.
Reliable Man. Mae West’s wet dream.
Shareta. Bet two get one free on the Pari-Mutuel.
Testosterone. A very fetching animal.
Danedream. What the prostitute said to the penniless Copenhagener.
Galikova. Or what the Russian did with her tongue.

Aidan O’Brien’s Verdict....
Listen, obviously I like the French good time girl, and the Japanese sex aid can take up any position between horses.
I’ve told Seamus and Joseph not to get too close to French Alzheimer’s, but the one I’m really frightened of is Testosterone.
When you think it’s all over, he comes with a late spurt! <laugh>

No time for racing at the moment due RWC. Italy might not win this but at times they are shoving Ireland all over the park. Wales look the strongest of the home countries at the moment?
Ah horseracing, Galinda has not got the ground she needs but will not desert her so it's three (four?) bets for me Galinda and So You Think, with R/F.

GL today everyone!

I see Australia Day goes Novice Chasing today, I think he has the makings of being a very good front running chaser but today I think its fascinating to see so many front runners in one race. He isn't a bet today but I think he will do very well to make all against a field who will want to take him on. I have backed Kaolak EW against him.

Kaolak looks a real chaser in the making and he did well enough in his novice hurdles career to suggest that he can have a bright future over the bigger obstacles. His second to Red Merlin last season reads very well and I think he is going to be a nice chaser for the Reveley yard. I also think they will ride him sensibly here and take a lead and hopefully picked them off if he gets into a nice rhythm. 10/1 EW but its a shame we don't have a bigger field!

The nap today is So You Think - I really do think that we will see him prove what made AOB proclaim him as the best he had trained earlier in the season. I hope he gets a good ride and is given every chance to win the race.

Good luck one and all.

Can't believe Australia Day is as short as 11/10 with Paddy Power, thought we might have seen some 5/2 around. Won't be touching him at that price, watching brief today <ok>

Have backed SYT to win the Arc with an E/W interest in Masked Marvel, although probably won't see the race as I will be familying

Watched Bridesmaids last night - not really up to the standard of his previous films.

Have also started watching Fresh Meat, found it quite funny as it reminds me of student days in Manchester <laugh>

Morning chaps

just a quick pop on - hope you are all well <ok>. St Nicholas Abbey would win me a fortune if he was to win the arc this afternoon I doubt it but have lots of bets on him. Apart from those still not punting at the moment.

Odddy Fresh Meat is top notch - HOWARD <laugh> <laugh> <laugh> can i have 1/20th of your pint

Thumping second half performance from Ireland, completely outplayed the Italians in all departments! Think Ireland will have too much firepower and class for Wales but we'll soon see <ok>

Re the old Arc I like Meandre e/w at 14s.

Amazing to think that Aiden O'Brien has 3 runners in the Arc but nothing in the rest of the card at Longchamp. Confirms for me that his current crop is pretty poor.

The money is on and the chips are down. So long as either Sarafina or SYT start favourite i'll be fine. I've had a monster bet on SYT for the win at 11/2, and then layed it off at 5/1 on Betfair and chucked a few quid at SNA EW. Brilliant day's racing and provided the favourites play ball i'll be in profit whatever the outcome.

But i think this is the day that SYT shows everyone what he can do. I think he's the best horse in the race but he just needs a little luck from that draw and he'll be fine. I said he was the real deal right at the start of the season and i'm sticking to my guns.

Come on SYT! :emoticon-0140-rofl:
