    14.00 Worcester- Clever Dick - 4/1 (NAP)

Have put him up plenty of times and once again I shall <laugh> Has been given some time off after his last run at catterick in March. It is very intresting that the connections, have now put him over the fences after all his previous races over the smaller obstacles. He must be showing the right signs at home for them to take the chance. He is still on very winnable mark. Will like to the ground as all of his best performances have come on this ground!

    15.00 Worcester- Indian Daudie- 2/1

Likewise put him up a couple of times before including last wednesday when finally winning at Fontwell, so confidence is high trainer and jockey won this last year. The fav is carrying a double penalty and altho he carries the best form coming to the race, I reckon the champion trainers horse to take the the honours again

Even when it's the European Championships you can't keep Lionel Messi out of the headlines. He just knocked in a superb hat-trick as Argentina beat Brazil 4-3 in an amazing friendly match. His last goal was so good it's almost ridiculous. Enjoy.

    What a goal.

French Champion hurdle today-anyone had a look? Thousand Stars 5/2 and Zaidpour 9/2 for Mullins. Think Thousand Stars is a worthy fav.

Canadian GP today- Vettel looking strong but I hope we have a cracking race.

Jenson Button is the interesting bet if strategy falls right for him. Starts on the soft tyre as opposed to the super soft and to qualify 9th on those is excellent. He looked to be finding some pace yesterday and the McClaren is quick here. Hopefully Hamilton can stop Vettel pulling away at the start and we can have a real battle.

If Jenson can make any positions up at the start and bang in some consistent laps, he will be very quick late on with super softs and light fuel and can put himself in contention. Strategy is everything and if he can have a long first stint then maybe he can have back to back Canadian GP wins.

Toppy, interesting to see you mention the F1 again. I think there is a stonking bet with Maldonado being 6/4 to finish in the points.

Maldonado would have been very close to the top ten had he not run wide on the last corner and hit the wall, his car is fast enough for the points and Williams have been showing really good speed in all the races this season. I personally can see him finishing in the top six, and therefore I have backed him in the points market and also the top six market (6/1).

Really like the chances of Hisaabaat in the earlier Grade 1 Toppy. Agree Thousand Stars is a worthy favourite but Robert Collet's Nikita Du Berlais gets a nice weight allowance from the Mullins trio and looks the strongest of the home team. Should be an interesting race.

Nass my main concern with him would be that he is an absolute lunatic.

I like your logic though and you are right- he does have the pace. However Id say he is equally about 7/4 to finish in the wall of champions.

I'm just scanning the mrket for the race at the mo, I'll have a gander at whether there are any interesting bets to be had.

What a horse he was this NH Season Oddy. Superbly consistent. My only concern is that he has been having hard races since October and that this might be one too many. Hard to crab his form though

One to enjoy progressing this winter.

    Interesting chat on the F1....

My take is this. Vettel will win the race easily providing there isnt a disasterous safety car or weather change.

He was fastest by a mile..... he will have clean air and will be 5 secs + clear by lap 4. Hamilton will be in dirty air with cars up his backside. Vettel is also much easier on his tyres and can get much longer stints without a drop in performance. This is a huge huge advantage as he can respond to others pitting first.

He is a cracking price to win in my opinion and ive lumped on via a spread bet (so even if he came 2nd wouldnt lose much).

Button is the interesting person for sure. Not sure why he didnt come out for the flying lap at the end of quali? Either tactics or something not right. My concern is that unless he gets a flying start he will be stuck behind so slower cars (Massa) and could be 30 secs off the lead before you know it. He showed in Monaco he isnt ice cold and might get frustrated watching the race slip away.

Maldondo wont finish i dont think but if he does pretty sure you will be collecting on the points bet Nass (im going for that bet for interest). Top 6 might be too much......

So, my thoughts are Vettel will win. I think Massa will hold up anyone behind him so the top 5/6 should get well clear. Therefore (somewhat uninspiring i know) i think hamilton and alonso will be 2nd and 3rd but not sure which order. So for me its Vettel / Ham / Alon and Vettel/Alon/Ham.

The Argentinian side Messi plays in is so strong, that Aguerro is sat on the bench. Where as Ronaldo plays alongside the likes of Helga Postiga at Portugal.*

Argentina are a far stronger side than Brazil, and would have been strong favourites to beat them at home last night. Completely different circumstances to Ronaldo's situation last night.*

1 player cannot make a team, no matter how good they are, Messi would struggle to make an impact in that Portuguese side. Particularly against a German side that is considerably stronger man for man.*

For what it's worth I do actually think Messi is the slightly more gifted footballer, though there isn't alot in it. I just find your attack on Ronaldo somewhat ridiculous, as your completely ignoring the circumstances of both games last night *

    Joke of a decision.

I might take up boxing walk around like a zombie in survival mode for 6 rounds after getting beat up badly. Then throw a few punches later on. I will be the new world champion. Hope Bradley fights Khan. Not Khan's biggest fan but he is way too quick for Bradley who can't throw a punch. In fact it is embarrassing that a bloke built like that and in such good shape has so little power.

Shergar its a splitting hairs arguement...!!! They are both super talented. The Argies for what ever reason havnt as of yet found the best way of playing Messi to get the Barca form out of him, but last night we saw it... It 'was' a friendly but when do Argentina and Brazil play them...

As for the Pork'n'Cheese mob then i agree they are nowhere near the class of the Argies but please dont tell me that they went out to do anything but stifle the Germans and hope not to get beat... They play Ronaldo up front but dont support him. From what i saw they have the talent but wont release it. Thats tournament football for you and that will never change... (Wait for what Roy sends out... Then you will see what defensive tournament football will be about...!!!)

But im a Messi fan, though to be honest, i dont really think that there are a load of really top, top class footballers out there like there used to be. Where are the top strikers, the ones you knew would score not matter what the time of the game... The mid fielders who supplied crosses, assists and scored most important goals and took the game by the scruff of the neck...

The modern day football players are just super, super fit athletes first who have a talent for kicking a ball second... You only have to look at the amount of goals being scored from the midfield nowadays to see that the out and out striker is a rare thing... Football has changed for the super star midfielders and the Portuguese havnt sussed out where to play Rocky Ronaldo...

I know where your coming from but i was disappointed with them last night... And i wasnt overly impressed with the German front line either... Gomez might have scored a bag full for Bayern but he looks pedestrian... Saying that as long as you know where the net is then it shouldnt matter...!!!

We shall see... but thanks for your comment, it was only ever meant to be a split comparison on last nights matches...<ok>

Lets stimulate some debate...Anyone got an opinion on the Curragh 3.50 today?

Sharestan 11/10 looks to get his head in front after narrow defeats to Famous Name and finishing 2L behind St Nicholas Abbey.

Learn 2/1 makes his reappearance under Colm O'Donughue having finished 5L behind Camelot n the RP trophy and a creditable 4th behind French Fifteen & Bonfire in the Criterium last year. He is up in trip from 1m to 10f and that may suit this son of Galileo.

Who would you side with and why? (If either of them of course!)

    Learn Toppy <ok>

reasons. I don't rate Famous Name at all I think he beats rubbish horses and is exposed at the highest level and even in strong Group 2s. Secondly there are no excuses for Sharestan not getting past that donkey pacemaker last time out. Murtagh was in a better position than O'Brien on SNA + he was ready to go SNA would have been there for a spin before Epsom.

Learn was used for Camelot in the RP trophy imo and could have finished closer. His 4th last time out is good form for this race and the step up in trip will also be in his favour. Sharestan hasn't had a lot of racing himself and has to concede 13lbs to the 3yo <ok> LEARN a solid bet at 2s

Redcgull....I agree with what your saying, but it's not really Ronaldo's fault that his manager decided to use those tactics. The funny thing is Portugal actually played really well when they went a goal down, and were given the freedom to have a go. Maybe if they had a go from the start they might have got a result.

I agree completely about modern day football, games are decided more on which team has the most energy, rather than which side has the more skilful players. The days of the lazy centre forward who doesn't close down or defend are long gone.*

I do actually rate Messi and Ronaldo as 2 of the best I have ever watched, I'm old enough to remember back to the early 80s, and the only other player ive watched as good as those 2 was Maradonna:biggrin:
