Like the look of far too much tomorrow

2.00 Doncaster Ginger Ted 28/1 NAP
    2.15 Newbury Saigon 7/2
    3.00 Doncaster Camelot 6/4
    4.40 Aintree Havingotascoobydoo 11/4
5.20 Doncaster Youhavecontrol FC 14/1 NB

My old friend Hot Rod Mamma is out tomorrow in the 4.45 Doncaster and is 16/1. She certainly proved that she was up a higher class when running an excellent 3rd LTO and although she has a bit to make up on her official ratings tomorrow in this conditions stakes but it isn't implausible that she can improve to this level. Although it does look tough, I'm going to have a small play on her as she owes me absolutely nothing. I'm excited to see how far she can progress!

Why on earth is there only 3 runners tomorrow for the Roan chase- Is it something to do with MM in the race or the prize money? I know its early days in the calender but this is extremley poor for a fairly big race- especially now its been named after the great grey Monets Garden. It must be a fairly big race for Nichols to run MM (surely his new no1 horse) in it! I am very disappointed!

I'm not arguing for or against, but I would like to know why you would think 6/4 for Camelot is a good bet?

On paper he probably looks a bit skinny at 6/4 but I just don't think any of his market rivals will get close to him - that and I have been told that Camelot is the best 2 year old at Ballydoyle (this was prior to Daddy Long Legs running who I rate a lot so can't be sure now). Yes, he beat pretty much nothing of note on his debut but it was mighty impressive and he was never really challenged. O'Brien will have eaked a lot more improvement out of him, which is needed, but Aidan is one of the shrewdest operators out there and he wouldn't have taken DLL, a proven performer, out of the race if he didn't think Camelot was good enough to take this. I amn't overly enthused about his market rivals bar Zip Top who hasn't shown a great deal either but Jim Bolger is a man who can get ridiculous improvement from nowhere so he'd be my only concern. You know me Toppy and I am not one to back a shortie unless I'm confident but I really think it could be a procession tomorrow with Camelot much too good for his rivals.

    2.00 York

    Ginger Ted 28/1

Old write up below as I am a bit tired. Most important are he's back to a mark of 86, having won off 85 before and finished an excellent 1.5L 3rd to Hoof It off a mark of 89. A little rain would be definitely helpful as he looks to bounce back from a few poor efforts. His latest effort can be disregarded as he hated his new headgear. 2 starts back off a 4lb higher mark he just didn't really seem to travel too well but he never really had much cover from a poor draw. Trainer Richard Guest is in much better form now and its jockey Robbie Fitzpatrick's only ride at Doncaster tomorrow

"I’ll start this off with a very important note: if the ground conditions aren’t good to soft or worse I will not be having a bet which indicates the crucial nature of give in the ground for this Richard Guest 4 year old. I am quite a fan of this fast finishing gelding who will don his traditional ridiculous looking furry cheekpieces and noseband as he looks to record his 7th career success. Ginger Ted has been in excellent form this year notching 2 wins so far and given his nature of coming from the back, a fair few hard luck stories. Despite being drawn in the coffin box draw of 20, I think Ginger Ted’s hold up style will mean that this draw wouldn’t be as big a factor for other horses as he will be able to sit in behind the pace and does not necessarily need a plum draw as a result, although it is still a negative

After having a reappearance run back in April after 6 months off the track, Ginger Ted got straight back to winning ways when winning at Ayr over 5f on GS in May when seeing of The Nifty Fox by a neck. However, this result is better than the bare result as Ginger Ted missed the break slightly and also found a lot of trouble in running (unfortunately a common occurrence) and had to be switched several times before powering home close to the finish. On his next start at Windsor, Ginger Ted again met trouble in running having to be checked over 3f out and then he was short of racing room before finding a gap and flying at the finish to finish 1L behind We Have a Dream in 4th off a mark of 85. The form of this race looks good, with WHAD coming 2nd subsequently off a 6lb higher mark, and the 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 11th winning off similar marks subsequently.

Ginger Ted’s next start came only a day after his effort behind WHAD and saw Ginger Ted return to winning ways off the same mark when defeating Red Cape by a head after a perfectly timed ride to burst through a gap and to win going away (eased close home). Ginger Ted remained poised in behind and when a gap opened up he flew straight through horses and was an impressive winner. It is worth noting that Ginger Ted seems to relish going between horses through tight spaces which is definitely a great attribute to have. The 2nd, 6th and 8th have won again subsequently so the form of this race looks fine also.

Ginger Ted’s next start after this came at Newcastle off a mark of 89 where he once again was unlucky in running. After travelling ominously well along with the winner Edinburgh Knight, Ginger Ted again had to be checked and lost momentum as a result and after having waiting for a gap to appear he powered home close home to finish 1.75L behind the winner. Although I don’t think he would have won, I think the trouble met cost him finishing closer. On his next start Ginger Ted put in an absolute stinker of a run finishing last of 14 at Hamilton. The ground was good to firm that day and I am willing to overlook this run as a result.

Ginger Ted’s penultimate start could be considered his best to date when finishing 1.5L behind subsequent Stewards Cup winner and Nunthorpe favourite Hoof it at tomorrows track over 6f on good ground. Ginger Ted came with a clear run down the outside of the group and was getting closer with every stride and it was a very impressive performance. With the first two home racing on the far side, it could be argued that Ginger Ted’s effort was on the unfavourable ground as he did best of all to come near side. Furthermore, a lot of Ginger Ted’s rivals from that day oppose tomorrow and were all behind him. They include Irish Heartbeat (9th), Racy (10th) and Silaah (17th). Ginger Ted’s latest performance was a disappointing effort at Doncaster on Saturday on drying good ground. Ginger Ted was absolutely friendless in the market so I think connections knew he wasn’t going to win as he finished 2.5L 7th behind Secret Witness. He did stay on towards the end but it was a disappointing effort."

    I can't stop finding horses I like!

    3.45 - Glencadam Gold 20/1

Looks very overpriced to me in what is Sir Henry Cecil's only representative at the track, and more than likely his more confident of his 2 runners as Tom Queally goes to Newbury instead of Donny. Although there is a bit of faith required with him after being off since July, he went well after a 6 month break on his 3 year old debut so that isn't a concern to me. Although he disappointed on his last 2 starts, his latest start was a very hot handicap and in a Group 2 on softer ground that probably didn't suit. 3 starts ago he won a 5 runner event at Newmarket over 12f very impressively of 89, beating the impressive double winning Parlour Games by 4.75L who is now rated 10lb higher. Glencadam Gold is only 4lb higher than this win and if fully wound up on better ground which is sure to suit more than the 20/1 may look ridiculous.

Lots of good racing today- but not easy to find winners.
My view is to go for the short shots:

    2.55 Galway. Mount Benbulben.
Slaughtered Lovethehigherlaw in a bumper and was then sold for a big sum. Currently around 4/5 Betfair. Get on.

5.45 Aintree. Hazy Tom. Cantered home on hurdles debut from previous winner, Thespis Of Icaria. Early 5/4 Betfair attractive. Get on.

3.40 Chepstow. Fingal Bay. Hacked up by over 20 lengths at Exeter in his bumper earlier this year. Big things are expected of him, and makes his hurdling debut in a Grade 2.
5/2 William Hill looks worth taking.

    Good punting everyone!

i couldnt take 6/4 about camelot on reputation alone for me thats terrible value a couple have credentials against him and are open to vast improvement. I think the hack my daughter rides on a Sunday morning could have won that Leapordstown race, the 2nd beaten on 6 occasions and the rest not won between them, i will not have a bet here i'll watch with great interest.

On the other hand i will take 5/2 about Fingal Bay at Chepstow 3.40 WH i think he is value, although another one whos reputation is going before him i'm willing to play, i just cant see Hobbs pitching him in here if hes not ready.

Another i like today Havingotascoobydoo in the 16.40 Aintree 11/4 Boylesport so impressive at Ffos Las jumped very well indeed and could have won pulling a cart must have an outstanding chance today.

I think it's just that Master Minded's rating meant most of the other early entries were way out of the handicap, hence only 3 declared this morning.

It is very disappointing, and not much of a tribute to Monets Garden, but it never attracted many entries, even when he used to win it.

Nice one ROTO. As I said I'm not knocking it by any means, I just wanted to see the logic behind it to see what people's thoughts were <cheers>

I personally really like Learn from a form perspective, and even though it beat nothing on debut, I couldn't not be impressed with Camelot the way he cruised round on debut. I have to say, he reminded me an awful lot of St Nicholas Abbey, but perhaps with a longer stride.

    2.55 Brooklyn Brownie

This race is a brilliant old boys chase and I really like my old friend Brooklyn Brownie in this. He ran a really good race in February when beaten by a wide margin by Rambling Minster at Doncaster and since then he has dropped down the ratings to todays 128. This is the most important thing as he has now become very attractively handicapped on his previous handicap efforts and I think today could be perfect for him to return to the winners enclosure. The trip is fine, the ground is fine and the yard are also in the winners. At 10/1 he is a very good bet for me today.

    Good luck one and all.

Interesting to see Nicholls start Rebel Rebellion off over hurdles today, I guess its a good prize to be aimed at before going chasing. An exciting chase prospect.

Just read his column on Betfair Nass, doesn't sound very bullish about any of them to be honest

Such a consistent horse on the flat. Travels exceptionally well, but struggles to get his head in front. Decent Gallop will help and he should give another good account. 14/1 Various

    Hazelrigg (ew) 2.00 Doncaster
Another consistent type who enjoys these competitive handicaps. Ran well previously, and is off an attractive mark down at the bottom. Should go well. 16/1 Various

    Good Luck everybody!

Oddy, I guess its too early in the season to know where he truly stands. I think RR should run well but its a chaser in the making and not a natural hurdler.
