Racing today comes from Ayr, Plumpton, Folkestone, Southwell and Cork. If there is one thing I like, it's a gut busting trip on rain affected ground. Today at Plumpton, we have just that, 29f on a heavy track. One I liked in the 14:45 is Double Dizzy, who last up wasn't competitive over 20f. Before that was in that race at Cheltenham over 31f where a horse hit the dividing rail and forced most of the field down the wrong course. He was going quite well at the time. At around triple each way odds, he seems great value. Amazing bit of film. http://horses.sportinglife.com/Video/Racing/0,27770,474268_4,00.html AYR. 13:55 Bene Lad. Red. WON 2-1. PLUMPTON. 14:45. Double Dizzy. EW. cyc. WON 8-1 15:20 Watergate. Oddy. FOLKESTONE. SOUTHWELL. CORK. It never troubles the wolf how many the sheep may be. Virgil.
Me neither, but I've often wondered about those fences that start in the open. I suppose it won't be the last time a horse hits one front on.
Morning all, My first bet of the year is - 12.15 - Steel City Boy - Running well of late, this is within his scope. I think they went off slightly too fast last time out, and that cost him. He has form to overturn with Argentine, but I think this race could be run in a more suitable manner for him. If young Brock (who I think is a fair 7lb'er) can get him to the front on a slowish pace I think he can win this. 12/1 is an insult to the horse. An insult I say. Football today too don't forget.
G'day Cyc, hope you are well. For old time's sake I'll throw up a nap: 3.20 Plumpton Watergate (NAP) has finished second on his last 2 starts and can go one better today. Richard Rowe's gelding finished 5 lengths second to Jonjo O'Neil's Master Milan on his penultimate start (Plumpton, 2m2f GD-SFT, SOFT in places) and was again second last time out, this time to Hunt Ball who reopposes today. In that race, over 2m4f on soft at Fontwell, Hunt Ball was receiving 19lbs from Watergate, but today Hunt Ball has to give Watergate 7lbs - a massive 26lbs swing in favour of Watergate. Even if we take the 7lbs of the jockey into consideration that is still a 19lbs pull and I firmly believe Watergate can take his revenge today. Goring Two was also soundly beaten by Watergate in the Fontwell race and, although he has also won since, he is 12lbs worse off at the weights. Everything looks to be in Watergate's favour today and the 5/1 generally available looks good value to me.
Morning Nass - and I HAD forgotten! Thank goodness for that, as the racing isn't any too inspiring! Good luck with Double Dizzy Cyc - I think you may need it, at 10-1 - I'd want 33's about that one to be even slightly tempted I think the top 2 have it between them, but a watch race for me
Reebs, I'm getting a bit desperate mate. I need to hit one of these to have a shot at Wooly on the Singles comp. Seriously though, I still think he'll run a decent arce, but what do I know.
1.40 Cork TOP SPIN (3/1 BOG) An interesting maiden hurdle here and I wan't to start by pointing out why I am against the current favourite Simenon who is trained by Willie Mullins. My first point is that he and the selection both had very similar profiles on the flat but one is 5/6 today and the other is 3/1. The reason the race has been priced up like this is surely because Simenon has had the one run over hurdles, however for me that was a poor race and he performed to a modest level at best that day for sure, also I am not positive that he handled the testing conditions that day either. His trainer seemed to highlight the ground as an issue on his website today "ideally, he would prefer much better ground". Although he did mention he is expecting improvement from his debut performance I can't be having him at 5/6. TOP SPIN could be the one to beat on his first appearance over hurdles. His trainer Colm Murphy is more than capable of getting one ready first time out and of course this horse now runs in the famous JP McManus silks. For me he is worth taking a chance on at around the 3/1 mark and I will end this with another quote from Willie Mullins " Colm Murphy’s Top Spin is a nice recruit from the flat and is probably the one to beat".
All the best again for the New year gents, i hope we all had a good one... Struggled to find much today but as ive had to find 5 for the Singles cup i shall put forward my picks... 12.50 South - Captain Bellamy, 7/2 1.55 Ayr - Bene Lad, 9/4 and my Nap... 2.15 Plump - Oscar Charlie, 4/1 2.25 Ayr - Little Hercules, 6/4 3.10 Folk - Rigaden e Beachene, 3/1 Good luck to all...
