Today sees racing from Ayr & Wolverhampton and although it is typically poor for a Monday a good bet is a good bet regardless of the day of the week it falls. I have posted early to bring attention to a couple of horses of note on the sand at Wolverhampton.

    Wolverhampton
    4.40 Sir Charlie Kunz Evns
This horse was backed off the boards when it last run and would have won easily if the race hadn't been stolen in fine fashion by Martin Lane upon a David Simcock horse. Whilst I am surprised they have not simply found a maiden for the selection an opening handicap mark of 74 looks considerably lower than this horse will find himself on soon and so even money should provide a quick 100% return on any investment and providing he is ridden close to the pace no worry should be experienced at any time during the race.

    5.10 Persian Patriot 5-2
After all the shenanigans of the coup horses last week this is an opportunity for the form book to throw up a winner. The selection is taking on The Blue Dog who is going for a four timer yet there are many reasons it should be a complete shock should he achieve it today and yet the old dog is favourite again.

The reason it should not be is that the last time these two horse met the Blue Dog gave Persian Patriot 9lb and was beaten 9 lengths by Persian Patriot, tomorrow however if the bookmakers are to be believed to have priced it up correctly The Blue Dog is going to reverse that form from December now giving 12lbs. All good runs have to end at some point and it looks like the Blue Dogs may end tomorrow.

    5.30 Smalljohn 4-1
This horse was well backed when just being run out of victory by a finisher on Saturday, if turning out again he should prove a worthy favourite and hard to beat today. To keep with the form book thread this horse is roughly a low seventies high sixties horse and can be backed when drops to the lower end of that, from 65 tomorrow he has a decent chance. He is a bigger price than the other two selections and if an easy profit is our thing then Sir Charlie Kunz is the man, if however a bigger price is more sought out then Smalljohn will provide a good chance at a reasonable price.

I am pretty much only watching the jumps at present and punting only on the sand so hopefully someone will follow this with an overview of Ayr.

    3.20 Ayr- Lord Redsgirth 22/1

I hate midweek racing and therefore this will be for pittence, but you have a horse who gets his ground for the first time in a long while, and the handicapper has given him right old chance off a mark of 110. He was 3rd at Uttoxeter off 129 (effectively 122 with a 7lb claim) not too long back and should relish conditions today IF Normille has him race fit for today.

toppy , i like the booking of D Costello for your selection--has a good strike rate for the yard,i see he has been trimmed into 14/1 as well--i am going to do Oil Burner in the 1 45--for the white hot Amos outfit--horse is dropped in the right grade after running in higher, will enjoy the ground and get the trip--bit of value at 8/1 .

    Great call Rudebwoy <applause>

Lets see if Wolverhampton can get off to a good start with Consistent going in.

Charlie Kunz backed off the boards again and now the even money looks a good investment, cannot see anything landing a glove on him.

good call Bluesky ! --the johnston horse looks good--too short for i and i --he has one tommorrow at Southwell that should be a bit better price--but problem now is that having hit top form --they will be priced accordingly--whether they are good or not...

I see Fingal Bay may be out this Saturday @ Sandown after over 400 Days out, with the World Hurdle the supposable target @ Cheltenham

I agree on the Johnston Horses Rudi, they are very difficult to call and he is not a particularly astute placer of his horses in my opinion. It is possible to get false prices for them, especially when in those green silks with the red cap. This horse this afternoon however I think will trot up and although I would not have backed it odds on the even money is a value bet. It must be a lot safer than the short prices being taken about Fitzgerald in the next who however good at home is seeing the course for the first time and not well drawn.
