Well Islander, great minds think alike. I spotted Holberg a few days back, and thought him a big chance today. His run in the Melbourne Cup was full of merit, and the chance to spend some time in the warm weather while the North froze, must have done him some good. I'm not too keen on the price, but you can't have everything. Holberg for me too mate.

when james rides for kirby its normally a good guide that they fancy the horse to win or at least place, this is because kirby has no gallops and uses reveleys facilities, today james rides Pickworth 18;45 weth but McCoy comes up to ride the aussie hotpot o'callaghan, so i would advise each way on pickworth 8s and maybe a rfc on the pair, Kirby should have another winner in the 19;20 Simply Smashing

also Chris Grant will have a double tonight Bob Will 19,55 weth,,,,,,, and Jeu Du Rosean 20;05 Newc

    Stay Frosty

18.30 at Sandown is another listed race and several have good chances, but i'm going with Pyman's Theory,if Kingsgate can stop her from hanging left she should have a chance. Pyman's Theory EW.

Fury ran a respectable race in the 2000 Guineas, when badly in need of the run, and I fully expect him to win at Sandown tonight (8:15). It's been raining all morning in London, which should ease the ground, and that can only improve his chances.

Bannock (6:30) beat Magic City fair and square at Windsor and I can't see any reason why that form should be reversed.

Heisenburg like your Pickworth ew , not to confident on Hotpot O' Callaghan carrying the extra 7lbs though.

I've only looked at Brighton so far but I do like the look of:

Fire King in the 4.10 (3/1 widely available, sure to shorten). Loves Brighton (CD winner), sired by one of my favourites Falbrav out of a mare by Dayjur. Staying on 3rd at Bath on reappearance.

Missed a winner at Ayr (Rent Free) - never mind (will explain later)

Wetherby 18.45 O'callaghan Strand. Jonjo O'Neill's only runner here and it looks like AP has gone for the one ride. Winner last time out, 10.7, and sired by Galileo. 5/4 Corals and others. Looks a sound bet to me.

Still at Sandown. I agree Holberg looks good but I'm not going to put the mockers on it for you good folk.

I'm assuming the ground has eased a bit and therefore will take 11/8 freely available for Workforce thank you very much.

Now I have my selections out of the way I'll explain why I would have had Rent Free in the first at Ayr.

When I used to bet, the only method I liked for selecting 2yos was one that I picked up from the various systems I analysed and then updated.

Any 2yo that finished 5th or 6th first time out in a field of 12 or more was the published system but I refined that as follows:

    1. Must have finished within 6l of the winner
    2. Must have been promising run (eg unlucky in running, running on, prominent and weakened, ran green etc)
    3. Time must have been decent, the faster the time the bigger the bet
    4. Other placed horses if having run since must have run well
    5. Preferably good pedigree

Rent Free ticked all the boxes but in view of the price I would probably have left it as the idea was to find good priced winners.

We've had a lot of rain in the London area, Cyclonic, and the 9/4 available at Hills (7/4 at Laddies), is very good value, indeed.
