NICKY HENDERSON onTuesday said "nothing has happened" to Long Run as he sought to allay a report the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup favourite could be a festival doubt.

After Ladbrokes took down their Gold Cup markets because of a drift in the horse's odds on Betfair on Monday night, Sky Sports News claimed on Tuesday morning there were "unsubstantiated rumours" surrounding Long Run.

However, Henderson told racingpost.com there was nothing wrong with Long Run and he was going out to work with second lot.

"The horse is going out to work now," he said. "I heard last night that he was drifting. Unless someone's been in there in the middle of the night and hit him with a hammer then I don't know why. It is most annoying because it's the last thing you need. All that worries you. Nothing has happened."

Must be a worry for the trainer though, I actually feel a little bit bad for Hendo on this one.

Yeah an unsubstantiated rumour about his well being to inflate his odds to allow those at lambourn to get better odds on the exchanges. Pretty standard Henderson really, although he knew nothing about it haha

I would suggest that it was people trying to lay off their Long Run bets at shorter prices with the positive news of Kauto's recovery that sparked this. If KS runs I can't see LR being near evens in the betting, so if you have backed him at 5/2 and lay off at the prices last night you would be making a nice profit, especially if KS does run.

I feel for Hendo, but he has been tarnished by his own actions in the past.

That seems a logical explanation.

I believe Henderson.

From Alan King Racing website:

Grumeti, ante-post favourite for next week’s Triumph Hurdle, is lame, but Alan stresses that “time is on our side and there is no need to panic”.

The boss explained:“Last night Grumeti spread his right fore shoe, and the toeclip has gone into the foot, which left him lame and quite sore this morning. “We certainly would not have wanted this to happen next Tuesday, but the Triumph is still 10 days away and I would hope that he would be sound again in 48 hours and able to exercise again on at the week-end.”

Hopefully this is just a minor issue - sounds like it. Price hasn't really changed.

Is it me or does it seem that there are more scares/injuries closer to the festival this year ?
Imagine sitting on an ante-post voucher all winter and get to now only for your horse to go lame ?
I'm not sure Alan King is right there, any horse that's lame 10 days before a race has problems, lameness doesn't juts disappear overnight, it will take physio, painkillers/anti-inflamatories etc and probably some rest, all this just over week before the race ?
If Choc comes out and says he's riding Balder Succes then time for Grumeti fans to panic....

There does seem to be a lot of "scares" Grizzly ....................................... being a Grumeti fan and backer I'm hoping this will clear up quickly. I assume all his serious work is done anyway so if he is sound and back cantering at the weekend then should be no worries <ok>

I should already be dead in the water on that bet anyway - I did the 16/1 double offer for him to win the Triumph Trial at Cheltenham in January and follow up at the festival .................. it's only thanks to the stewards chucking out Pearl Swan that the bet is still alive <laugh>
