CARDIFF CITY Title odds: 2,000/1 Last five seasons: 20th, 11th (C), 8th (C), 12th (C), 2nd (C) Likely starting XI (new signings in caps): 4-2-3-1; Etheridge; Manga, Morrison, Bamba, Bennett; Gunnarsson, Ralls; MURPHY, REID, Hoilett; Zohore Ins: Josh Murphy (£11m, Norwich), Greg Cunningham (£3.5m, Preston), Alex Smithies (£3m, QPR), Bobby Reid (£10m, Bristol City), Victor Camarasa (Real Betis, loan), Harry Arter (Bournemouth, loan) Outs: Omar Bogle (Birmingham, loan), Lee Camp (Birmingham, free) Net spend: £27.5m What’s new? Well, Premier League status, for one. Few expected Cardiff to be anywhere near the promotion shake-up last season, so this could be regarded as something of a free hit for Neil Warnock’s squad. Their summer recruitment certainly has the look of a club who have one eye on a possible promotion-winning campaign in 2019-20. Most exciting signing Bobby Reid leapt to prominence last season with some fine cup displays against the Premier League’s finest for Bristol City, so his relocation a few miles down the M4 bodes well for his new side. It will take some effort to reproduce that form every week in the top flight but Reid does not lack self-belief. How will they play? Cardiff were unapologetically direct last season and given the spectacular results, expect them to take no prisoners this term, either. <img class="responsive article-body-image-image" src="/content/dam/football/2018/08/09/TELEMMGLPICT000170983473_trans_NvBQzQNjv4Bq5UkwdrNdLmi7F8HLRonNAJIJy00iyYxjAF517vfvZ6I.jpeg?imwidth=480" alt="Neil Warnock"> please log in to view this image Neil Warnock will be out to prove himself in another shot at the Premier League Credit: Getty Images Who has it all to prove? Warnock himself, probably. An undisputed promotion specialist, Warnock’s failure to prove himself at the highest level - he was relegated, controversially, with Sheffield United in 2007 and sacked after five months by QPR in 2012 and after four by Crystal Palace in 2014 - still irks him. Who will be player of the year? Neil Etheridge will be busy but has responded well to every challenge laid down in front of him in a career that has taken in spells at Leatherhead and Oldham, as well as the Philippines’ national side’s No1. What are the chances of the manager being there in a year? Slim. History suggests Warnock struggles to adapt to the extra demands of Premier League football - although it will be fun while it lasts. 4/10 If they were a World Cup side they would be… Iran - and not just because of the ‘Ayatollah’ celebrations. Limited, physical and spirited, but ultimately probably doomed. Our prediction 20th. _____________________________________________________________________________________
Editor to newbie “go fill your boots boy...write about a football club Boy looks at newspaper reports from last season....much look! Who this Cardiff City, thinks boy with finger up bum? Boy writes easy words, not much construction Editor to boy “much good work!”
It won't be only the Torygraph that put us at 20th The so called pundits had Fulham above us right up to the last game.
The Guardians is a fair (if limited) assessment. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2018/aug/01/premier-league-preview-2018-19-cardiff-city
ive cancelled bt after listening 2 goals coming in Saturday>>>>>chris Sutton was over joyed at Cardiff going one down and said straight away that's us down>>>>>>>>not bias against us at all is fking bend over bum me please mr kit man Sutton. fk em all
Sutton had us down 15 minutes before kick off. By the end of the programme we were down with the fewest number of points ever.
he`s a fking dick, and impartial he wasn't>>>>>>he alone cost bt my subscription money.......the other gravy train fk wits are no better mind>>>some dogs dinner of a woman was shiocking and we all know dean saunders talks shi,te along with Robbie cabbage..........anyway gone know and I would rather listen 2 the radio like the good old days
I was going to say 5Live is a lot more balanced until I remembered Sutton and the other king sized clown Steve Claridge were on there yesterday. Seems like you get paid well if you are a self opinionated knob.
I'm sure Colin will have Sutton's comments playing on loop in the canteen, at the training ground, on the coach to games, in the johns and anywhere else he can think of. Sutton might be the difference between relegation and survival.
