Racing today comes from Folkestone, Newton Abbot, Pontefract, Windsor, Listowel, and Naas. Just love "Momday." Reminds me of my childhood, or maybe it's the strip club just down the road, next to the church and directly across the road from the preschool. Seeing as it Monday, I thought I'd like to kick off the week with a bit of class. Fresh out of nineteen hundred and fifty seven, I bring you the great Fats Domino. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En-PZIvzO64 The best flat action is centered around Naas, where a few Listed events are to be run. The first of them is the Owenstown Stud Stakes over the seven furlong trip at 3:10. On paper, it's a wide open affair. The favourite Glor Na Mara gets his chance to break his maiden status for the Bolger camp. Stepping back from a G3 third last up, the duel G1 place getter should be there abouts when the whips are cracking. The second Listed event is the wonderfully named Alfred Nobel Rochestown Stakes, to be run at 4:10 over six furlongs. That racing genius NassauBoard has informed my that young master J.P O'Brien's time in the saddle might be limited, due to a weight problem. Maybe this is why the young man seems to have been thrown into the deep end at such a tender age. This leads me to think that Raphael Santi might be the one here, but there are a few other chances in what looks a very competitive affair, for such a small field. The third of these listed events is the Coolmore Stud E.B.F. Fillies Sprint Stakes over the six furlong trip. Again the Bolger camp look to have almost a strangle on proceedings with the presence of Teolane. A big winner at Leopardstown, she comes into this as a short priced commodity. But there are other possible chances here. Naseem Sea, Princess Sinead and Basantee, to name but a few. I loke the value on offer about Basantee. Put in a fair effort when backed first up at Beverley, then started a hot favourite at her second appearance, when she stepped out at Southwell. Settled just off the leading duo, then burst through to hit the front and win by a panel of fencing. They must have an opinion of her to have backed her in the past, then to make this trip. At around the double each way quote, she looks value. Naas 3:10 Glor Na Mara. Naas 4:10 Raphael Santi. Naas 4:40 Basantee E.W. All naps and comments welcome. NAPS. FOLKESTONE. 2:30 Radiator Rooney. Nass NEWTON ABBOT. 2:45 Call To Arms. E.W. Oddy. PONTEFRACT. 7:30 Foxtrot Hotel. Bucks. 7:30 King Ferdinand. Mick. WINDSOR. 6:15 Cockney Rocker. Shergy. LISTOWEL. NAAS. 3:10 Glor Na Mara. Beefy. 4:40 Basantee E.W. cyc. Heisenburg. Double Naas. 4:50 Benefit Of Doubt. x 5:50 Thewesthowaya.
Fats Domino- a great blast from the past, Cyclonic! "Aint that a shame" we're gonna spoil it with horse talk!
I'm always up early since I retired- anytime from 4-6 am. Something to do with mental activity- or more likely 'up to no good' as my mother used to say. I get myself a cup of tea and browse the net- mainly the sports sites. I've just been watching a rerun of the Derby, and there was a point - when Pour Moi became unbalanced- that, had it been worse, he might have actually fallen. Also, it was noticeable that, when he quickened after Carlton House initially, the four lengths deficit stretched to six. Yet he then started to 'lengthen'impressively. The sign of a very good horse- and a true stayer. He should be even better with a stronger gallop on a flatter track. What do you think?
I'm finding hard to make excuses for those he beat. They all every chance to beat him, but he was too good. Others didn't handle the course all that well, but neither did he. Yet he spotted then all a start and a beating. I'm also one of those who think only the very exceptional horses are capable of making many lengths in a twinkling of an eye. He wasn't in the race, then there he was, half a dozen lengths off, next thing his rider is standing in the irons. A horse racing Tsunami.
2.45 Newton Abbot Call To Arms (NAP) --> 6/1 currently, E/W advised if that's your game Peter Bowen has his string in tremendous nick and Call To Arms gets a 7lbs pull in the weights with hotpot Rajnagan for 4 1/2 lengths. I'm taking him to reverse the form and win it but for those who prefer a bit more safety in the bet I think he looks absolutely nailed on for a place. Good luck to all.
Pontefract 7.30 - Foxtrot Hotel 9/4 (NAP) Jim Crowley goes for the one ride, and is the trainers only runner. Speedily bred, pulled clear on his 2nd start at Newbury winning with something in hand. Could of got in here off a lenient mark. Best of luck all.
2.30 at Folkestone is the sort of race most would shirk but not me! 6 due to go to post and most importantly we look to have one horse who will be able to get an easy lead, the horse in question is Ishipink (she looks like a pig - not an attractive horse by any means). She is a front runner who should be able to get out here and grab the rail (all important) before having a breather and then kicking for home. She is a modest maiden though and with an inexperience rider on she may need a very accomplished ride to hold off the likes of The Tatling and my selection Radiator Rooney. The Tatling will probably track Ishipink and look the likely winner before not going through with his effort, the same probably will happen with Commandingpresence (who has the best jockey on) who is a 48 race maiden, leaving it open for Radiator Rooney to swamp them in the final half furlong and win going away by a length. Imaginary Diva will swamp them for second in the shade of the post. Winner - Radiator Rooney
Oddy, she goes commando on a Monday, Tuesday she goes for a white frilly number and I like going to Folkestone on a Wednesday
I think the following selections will go close 7.00 Hollins Will have no problem with distance and the drying ground. Needed the run badly last time out. Has won over track previously. 7.30 King Ferdinand - Won last time out even though found lots of trouble in race. Third horse in race has won since. Trainer is in excellent form of late. 9.00 Compton spirit - Ran well last time out. 2nd horse has since finished 2nd in a class 2 handicap. Won over course and distance and loves GF.

Must back Mr Wolf in the last at Ponte, logic dictates that on a card that a race is named after him that he must run well. Logic eh?
