Racing today comes from Brighton, Newton Abbot, Ripon, Windsor and Roscommon. After the great racing we've had of late, we now get the chance to do battle with a horse of a lesser ilk, but a winner is a winner, at any price. I thought I'd kick off the DT with the first at Roscommon, a 7 furlong, 2yo maiden. It looks a really interesting race, with a few that could go to be nice earners for their owners. I think the trip will probably sort them out, with a few hitting the wall in the last furlong. I'm a bit of horses being tried over the distance, and showing that it's not a problem. When coupled to a leading stable and at about an each way price, what more can a bloke ask for? Maybe it's a divine "Prophesy." A very happy birthday to the citizenry of United States of America. All naps and comments welcome. BRIGHTON. 15:00 Buxton EW Waywardlad. NEWTON ABBOT. RIPON. 19:20 Van Der Art. Nass. WINDSOR. ROSCOMMON. 18:00 Prophesy. EW. cyc. A Wooly double. 3:30 Starbound 1-1, + 8:40 Blessed Biata. 1-4.
When are Channel 4 going to learn that hardly anyone involved in racing hates Derek Thompson! 2 occurrences on Saturday had me in stitches: David Elsworth telling Frank not to talk to Thommo, and even then Thommo tried to get sumat out of Frank But the best was Thommo asking Tom Queally 'what happened there young fella?' after Tom had nearly come off Vita Nova when the saddle slipped. 'A blind man could see the saddle had slipped' and walked off
Morning, all. I can’t believe that we have yet another meeting at God’s own racecourse, Newton Abbot, without a ‘Selling Hurdle’! Remedy this malady please racecourse executive. Meanwhile, down to ‘brass tacks’ its ‘no bet’ for me today.
Ripon 7.20 - Van Der Art - Another tough race to work out, with so many of the field having only had one run in their careers to date. Tim Walford's Keyhole Kate would be a bet if the yard had recovered form after their issues, but he still has yet to find the key to his horses and therefore I have to swerve his runner today. Delia Mary ran second to My Propeller on debut and she probably will be favoured by some of those who go by finishing position (2nd by a mere 17 lengths!) and could be underpriced. The selection however is Van Der Art who I put into the notebook after her debut at Lingfield, she looked in need of a further trip that day and also looked as if she needed the outing. I expect her to be sharper today and I take her to beat this field at 5/2. 1pt win.
Nass: Take a look at the 810 Windsor, i have a fancy in that one, see if you come up with the same horse! Good week-end? Any winners like? Was unlucky this week-end in one of my trixies, had Halicarnassus (20s), NR and Vita Nova who would without doubt had won had the saddle not slipped! Had a nice EW bet on Halicarnassus too but would have been a nice return all the same!
Dreadful race is the 8.10, I wouldn't back any of them. I had a good Saturday but didn't put them on here so I shan't bore you all!!
Nass: Chris Wall has a very good record in the race that's all, i've backed his and that's it for the day. Bore away, always nice to hear when people have good days maye especially as the majority are break even or bad
That race that Ride The Win ran in LTO was dreadful and that put me off him, the two I would be most likely to be with are Elivira Delight and Elegant Muse as I think both showed that they are potentially better than their marks if you cross out their last efforts. Other than that I think Duquesa will run its usual gallant race and Hannon's Whodathought is another who will possibly run his race. Todays racing is really poor, the best race is possibly the Beginners Chase at Newton Abbot!!!
That 8:10 looks one hell of a race. I don't know whether J.S. Moore knows what he's doing, but I noticed that four runs back, the stable backed him in from 5s into 3s and he was too good. Last start they had a crack again, 18 into 12, but went horribly. I'm a firm believer in where there's smoke, there's fire. Maybe a small each way tickle at 25-1 Red Zeus.
Alrite guys I'm going for a ryan moore double should get about even money for it. 3.30 starbound + 8.40 blessed biata
I shall amend my above comment to ' NO BET' today after Nass and others responses So, come on Nass, divulge your winners mate
Bowdler's Magic EW So You Think Highland Knight Master Rooney (plus a good few losers including Vita who I had in a big double with SYT)
Ok Nass, you've been a supporter of So You Think's prospects. At a mile and a half aginst Workforce in a 10 horse field, what would happen? I have my opionions, but mine are biased.
What ground conditions Cyc? If it's firm, Workforce wouldn't take him on. If it's good to soft or soft, Workforce for me. If it's good....hmmmmmmm.
I would have to wait to see what the conditions were like but I do think So You Think won easier than the distance might suggest. I would suggest that a horse like him can be asked for his effort earlier if needed and he was going away at the line. If they met in the Arc and both got clear runs then I think it would be a very close finish, however I think SYT will be going Breeders Cup route rather than the Arc and I would be wary in backing him for the Arc at the moment (plus he is too short). I think with proper cut in the ground and over further you would find it hard to be against Workforce.
Soft ground Ron. I know it plays to Workforce's strength, but So You Think's 2 mile run in the Cup under an impost, for me says he'll have no problem at all over a mile and a half in soft conditions. As for Workforce's defeat on Saturday, I really don't think it was down to the track conditions, but the fact that the Stoute camp badly miscued with their pacemaker. To leave their champion in front, a full four furlongs out, was a tragedy. To go down by just a half length after doing all the bullocking, when the leader folded so early, I think is a testament to his quality. He's an amazing animal.
Very well said cyc. A I agree with you am a huge fan of workforce. He did very well after being let down by the pacemaker if syt was infront at that time and wprkforce was in his position the outcome may have been different. But it was a very good run by SYT but workforce is a very good horse
I thought the pacemaker did a good job, they had to stretch SYT out and they looked to have done it perfectly, I don't think Workforce would have finished as close if he had been ridden in any other manner over that trip. They played to his strengths and he still wasn't able to hold SYT off. If they had let SYT dominate then he would have gone slow slow quick quick and I don't think Workforce would have matched him in that sort of race.
Interesting debate I agree with Nass to be honest, and it was most interesting to hear the views after the race on RUK - a lot of them were with Workforce before hand but they all agreed everything went to plan when analysing the race and even said Workforce may well have been flattered by the winning distance given the fact that Soyouthink was hanging and right up Workforces arse/kept in by Confront
It's not too often that I disagree you you Nass, but this time I must. I'm still of the opinion that no matter how the race was run, SYT over 10f was always going to win, if ridden properly. AOB woke up. Heff even ducked back in behind Workforce in the straight, for extra cover before letting loose. The horse still became unbalanced for a few strides, but when he found his feet, it was all over. WF had precious little cover for at least a couple of furlongs, and this might have been the difference. Maybe. And only to go down a half length, leaves his fans full of hope for the future.
