As one hasn't appeared yet I'll start it off today.

    TODAY'S MEETINGS
    Flat:
    York
    Newmarket
    Salisbury

    NH:
    Ludlow
    Perth
    Folkestone

The feature race is obviously the Dante Stakes at York where we hope to finally see something earn its place as the Epsom Derby favourite. It will be interesting to compare the time of the race with that 30mins earlier when Midday reappears against some other class fillies. Both fascinating races but I shall look elsewhere at the same meeting for my selection.

I like the look of Night Carnation in the 15.35 but the odds look too cramped so I’m going for for Pintura (nap) in the 3.00. Very consistent and due a win. Hopefully the price will be enough for a safe ew bet.

York 3.00 Pintura 5 pts ew
York 3.35 Night Carnation 10 pts win

Dante looks a nice race. a bit light on for numbers, but with three promising types in Carlton House, Seville and World Domination, it hardly lacks class. If WD is all that he's cracked up to be, then he'll take some beating. His maiden win was amazing, but so too was the win of Queen's horse Carlton House. Don't know much about Seville, but seeing that he's so short, and comes from a big yard, he must be pretty good. AOB will be trying to find real Derby chances. Who ever wins today, must be a chance at Epsom.

    My bets for today are:

    2.00 (york) MyPlaceLater 12/1 1pts ew + Reverse FC with Midday 0.5pts
(If you have a betfair account then advise to do place there because exactly 8 declared runners and betfair still pay 3 places even with any NRs)

    5.45 (newm) Frequency 13/2 2pts ew

    Win double 2pts
    2.00 Midday @ 5/4
    3.35 Night Carnation @ 4/5

Looking at Seville's engagements it would seem that AOB either hasn't a clue as to his best distance or he thinks he is some sort of "triple crown type" super star:

12May11 2:30 (Overnight) at York, totesport Dante Stakes (Group 2)

21May11 3:45 (Early closer) at Curragh, Abu Dhabi Irish 2,000 Guineas (Entire Colts & Fillies) (Group 1)

04Jun11 4:00 (Early closer) at Epsom, Investec Derby (Group 1) (Entire Colts & Fillies)

17Jun11 3:05 (Early closer) at Ascot, King Edward VII Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings)

26Jun11 5:10 (Early closer) at Curragh, Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (Group 1) (Entire Colts & Fillies)

    02Jul11 3:10 (Early closer) at Sandown, Coral-Eclipse (Group 1)

03Sep11 3:45 (Early closer) at Leopardstown, Irish Champion Stakes (Group 1)

10Sep11 3:45 (Early closer) at Curragh, Irish Field St. Leger (Group 1)

Shame on me not posting my thoughts on the Dante here; I thought I had but then realised they were on 606.

Seville looks to be the form horse but 2yo form means very little to me (ie has little value). Not too keen on talking horses either. World Domination would need to win this impressively to convince me he could win the Derby (12f with an uphill start and finish could stretch his stamina). I'm a bit sentimental on the pedigree side and for me Carlton House stands out here. His sire produced Zenyatta and the dam (Talented) is by Bustino out of a mare by Mill Reef. I would love to see this one win and go on to Derby glory.

So much depends on how much these horses have developed from 2 to 3 that I would not risk anything on this race. Fascinating race to watch though."

Not a tip by any means but so glad he won. Lovely breeding.

Nice to see HM's horse win the Dante, but I don't think we saw the Derby winner today.
