If entry to the League (Carling) Cup became optional, would you want Pompey to take part in the competition?
Yes - at times its significance is less than at other times but winning is good. However it would be good if we had a big enough squad to not wear the players out for the league games as well.
I cannot help thinking that all this talk about having a big enough squad so the poor dears don't get worn out is spurious twaddle. Last weekend's Sunday Times had an article about an ex-Forest player from their championship winning year. A squad of 16 played 70 games to win the League Championship and League Cup double. I also liked the quote from Brian Clough that the first pass that comes to mind is always the best one, keep it short, simple and on the ground!
I guess this not for me to answer, but I do wonder where else you can give your reserve keeper and fringe players a game with zero risk. Assuming your squad is big enough anyway.
