I thought i'd paste Saints in on today's poll as twitchy has managed both clubs. From BBC Gossip Column Today's question is: Would you be happy to see Harry Redknapp as the next England manager?
The problem with the England side isn't just about the management, it's much, much deeper. We simply do not produce enough quality technically coached young kids at an early age. For obvious reasons 00redknapp isn't my favourite, but he would probably do a better jobthan Cappello. Until we change the fundamental way we coach youngsters, it will be at least 5-10 years before our national team look like competing at the top. We need to find a cure for the English disease, which is teaching very young kids to win, rather than to develop them technically.
I'd modify the question to ask... "Would you care if England never played another international game?" Answer for me, would be... NO.
I think he would be good England manager, however I would appoint Pearce sooner than Redknapp as Pearce has worked with the current crop of up and coming Internationals since they started as youths.
I would tend to agree with you when it comes to a lot of the 'friendlies'. These games have no value these days, especially when both teams use 8 or 9 subs. These games shouldn't be classed as internationals. They should be classed as training sessions and either played behind closed doors or advertised as 'exhibition matches' and played in front of crowds who have not been forced to take out a mortgage to pay for their ticket.
I posted yes because it would be good to see him outed as nothing more than a spend spend spend manager. With the current crop of England players he would pick all the oldies and fail miserably. Then we can have someone decent in instead . Roy Hodgson has international experience and did very well with Switzerland so he gets my vote Andyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
I have nothing against the bloke, personally, and I certainly don't blame him for what Saints catalogue of woes from 2005-9. All that was Lowe's fault mostly . Clearly he thinks of Harry Redknapp first and everybody else a long way last, but that doesn't necessarily mean he can't make a better go of the England job than most of the other likely candidates.
I voted "don't care" as increasingly I am losing interest in the national team. My concerns centre around the perceived lack of passion in many of the players, generated by a belief that their club requirements come before the national team - I blame the premiership/European competitions, and the FA's insistence of recruiting and overpaying joke foreign managers. Sven was paid £6 million a year, but was more interested in sleeping his way through the FA staff, and Capello who looks and acts like the chap Angelos who does the scores in Reeves and Mortimers "shooting stars" If he cannot speak English to an accepatable standard how on earth can he communicate his ideas/tactics? At least Redknapp would be able to motivate, but until he has gone through the courts over his "little bit of trouble" I can't see the FA touching him.
Amazing isn't it..? My answer would be the same. The disease is too much Premiership money. But the cat is well and truly out of the bag, so a cap on salaries won't be coming soon, and it needs to.
Putting aside my opinion of HR, I have to say that I think he'd make an awesome manager for England. I think he'd get fans and players alike pumped up.
He can't be any worse than mclaren or capello. After capello took EMILE HESKEY to the world cup, he lost any respect that he had gained in the qualifiers. Saints and the skates have better strikers than that f***ing donkey
TBH, I wouldn't give two sh*ts if Redknapp twitched himself out of a job at England or Hartley Witney youth.
We need to improve our players technically and tactically when they are younger like 7,8,9 years of age and focuse more on this aspect of the game instead of the "just winning" one. I would have Holloway or Adkins over Redknapp anyday.
