According to the Mirror Bruce is going to get rid of Gordon and Steed as they are on to high wages IMO this would br s terrible mistake Gordon fully fit is the best keeper in the league. And Steed has been fantastic for us.

I thought Gordon was an excellant signing for us maybe overpriced but a good signing.
Im sorry to say he has not improved in the time he has being here. Defoe did him no favours and he has been troubled ever since.
For me he does not command his box enough (Stoke away) although he was not the only ****e player that day.
I for one would not be upset at his leaving as long his replacement can improve us

C'mon! I like him but to say he's the best keeper in the league even when fully fit is a bit ridiculous

Good point Mitch, Gordon doesnt command his box at all, the same goes for young Mig. All in all I would prefer to have Gordon on his day he is superb. Lets hope Mig can improve next season.

This story is to be found everywhere. So there may be an element of truth in it.

Steed would be a big miss for us as he is possibly the best in the Premiership at retaining possession. However, for an attacking midfielder it has to be said that his goalscoring record is abysmal.
Gordon, whether through injuries or not, has not reached the standards that the huge fee we paid for him warrented, and I fear we would have to settle for a huge loss on him if he was sold. However, as Syd pointed out, this news came from one of the tabloids which are not exactly known for their reliability.

I agree with this. Im a big fan of Steed. There's nothing better than watching a group of 2-3 players twice his size trying to hustle the ball from him ... and failing. I know he rarely plays 90 minutes but when he's not on the ball he is a workhorse, constantly chasing down (a few SAFC players could do with learning how to do this).

However, I guess a time comes when age does become a deciding factor and if Bruce believes he has a capable, younger replacement lined up then I guess we have to support that decision. If he does go, I'll miss Steeeeeeeed much more than Gordon.

Do you reckon if you do sell Gordon, you'll recoup anywhere near the money you paid for him (9m or something?) Also how much did you pay for Steed and what has he got remaining on his contract?

Both are good, but if it means selling them to bring in someone better than fair play. Steed will be missed if true he is a legend.

If we were to get rid of Steed, why did we not try to keep Zenden, or was he also one of the high earners?

If you chek back at one stage in the season he was rated as the best keeper in Europe by the Italians

If you get rid of these two, how many players will you need to sign this summer?

It is hard enough to sign 1-2 decent, value for money players, but with all the loan players gone, plus Henderson and Bent, plus these two, it looks like you need to sign about 10 players.

Is that not a difficult task for bruce and Quinn?

Westwood, Ngog, Vaughan, Larsson, Gibson, O'shea, Dong-won.

    That's 7 who I think are the realistic target's.

    Another C/F, L/B and N'zog.

    Would be the other target's.

I think getting rid of both would be a mistake. Others have highlighted the benefits of both players.

Steeeeed would probably be a case of bringing in Elmo, Gardner, Larrson, Gibson and possibly a LM (NZog?), Bruce might feel that Steed staying would hamper the chances of developing people like Elmo, Colback and Meyler, as they'll need game time. It would be a shame to see him go but I'd rather keep Catts than Steed if we're to lose a midfielder.

To let Gordon go would be stupid as any keeper we could buy would be a step down in quality. Gordon is, on his day, definitely in the best 6 keepers in the league (Hart, Reina, Cech... ?) There's no keeper at his level who would be happy to come here without the prospect of Euro football. We just need to get him fit, make sure we can keep him fit, and get him on a new deal. He's top class. Westwood hasn't played PL football. No contest in my eyes.

Nobody knows the extent of his injurys, will he recover? will he be as good as was, look at the J Woodgate scenario, keeps getting paid, to not even sit on the bench, can see Sunderlands dilemma, new contract, and turns out dud, very expensive, get rid and cut your losses, and the wage bill, and he plays blindingly,,,,,,,,,, catch 22.

One by one, Brucie has been shedding Keane's team... it's a natural to want your 'own' team I would say ..
