Having gone through dome forums I have noted that some fans are using last season as a reason to be hopeful that things will get better and they are not as bad as some of us think Some points regarding last season Hodgson was manager during that awful run. Everybody knew the team was better than the results. In came Daglish and we were within a whisker of finishing 5th. Point squad was good enough to finish 6th. Over the transfer period we added 5 more players, Arsenal lost Fabregas and Nasri. Spurs added Adebayor and Parker. Liverpool let Raul Meireles and Alberto Aquilani leave. After an investment of 100M gross and 40M net you would expect a team that finish 6th to at least push for 4th. So what do we have 12 points behind the league leaders after 11 games is just unacceptable 4 home draws after 6 home games A pretty weak midfield in terms of depth. Injury to either Adam or Lucas and we are screwed considering the upcoming games A miss performing attack. Imagine if Suarez does his hamstring A winger whose confidence is battered (Downing). Shocked he has no assist or Goal as of yet. A 35M striker with premier league experience failing to struggle as compared to fellow foreigners of same price range. So it is only Liverpool's new players who are gelling? No. It is my belief that if you invest money in a team that finished 6th after a horrendous start they should be able to move on and and give better performances. The buck lies with the manager and it is up to him to ensure the team performs. The international break could not have come at a worse time but Daglish needs to sit down reflect and come with solutions quick.
the problem is the guy can only do so much and i nthe end if guys who have been given a go don't do it then the buck stops with him. we got shut of so much trash this summer it was untrue... then we got in 7 players who we could get in in the calender year seeing europe was not on..... so i nthe end top 4? I published a blog on this site saying it was not going to happen and i stand by it. I'm disappointed in a few guys but see some improvement as well. all in all i feel we've still a ways t ogo but if we're going to really spit the dummy about the manager i feel its a bit strong. I've said on every result how i rated them and i'm rarely satisfied but i do have to say it is an ongoing rebuild. Adam is really poor, just not willing to run. carroll is getting no service but is not good on the ball. downing is shocking, he needs to wokr on the basics. but at least the defense SEEMS to be improving a bit lately.
yes give it time but never give up demanding the best out of our players either. Must do better in a lot of areas is air to say but trusting that it will improve. What i feel is our best back 5 is now in place, we've got to get more hard owrk out of adam like lucas does, we need to get an awful lot more out of downing
Excellent article 6th ( last year ) + £40m net spend = At WORST 4th, probably 2nd or 3rd (or it should, and it would have if Dalglish got the right players in.... He didn't he wasted it) Give it time!!!!! Good players , gel straight away,Suarez,Enrique,Masch,Alonso,Torres. Our players arnt gelling, because we bought the wrong ones, end of!!!
The problem is most of our fans just expected a top 4 finish from the start of the season and this shouldn't have been the case. We should be pushing for it, which is exactly what we are doing. If we get there then BRILLIANT, if not we build on what we lacked and push on next season. There has been a lot of change around LFC in the last 12 months and we have to be realistic. Also - things really could have been different, we are playing well, play some good football in most games and create a lot of chances. Just be patient we're 11 games into the season ffs!
The problem is that the 100m attacking quartet of Benderson, downs, carol and the racist aren't scoring goals
With the exception of the Spurs and admittedly Swansea game, I believe that we should of won every other game. Obviously we haven't but this does not mean that we are not heading in the right direction. We need to (1) finish our chances a lot better (2) defend a little better (3) Cut out the days when we don't show up.....like Saturday. Does anyone really think that we haven't taken giant steps forward from the Roy Hodgson months? I won't believe anyone who says that we haven't, even if we feel a little frustrated occasionally for the above 3 reasons.... Those who thought we'd waltz back into the top 4 are those who are most concerned today - I understand that so won't criticize it; we need CL football or we'll forever play second fiddle when trying to attract the best players to Anfield....but nobody has said it would be easy and so it is proving! How long did City have with bottomless pockets before they even qualified for the CL??? Have patience my friends YNWA
John Terry is part of your attacking quartet? Maybe thats why you're having problems, have a word with Villashhh Boashhhh about it mate.
Hate to say it but : first 6 home games last season 11 points , first 6 home games this season 10 points. Whilst not exactly a huge step backwards if even 1 point difference can be called that, it is certainly no improvement.
, Well here is to getting well up for Chelsea as we have done the past few years and they are not exactly lighting it up ( although I expect Torres to do much better) and City at home, normally I would say we have a chance but that stat does not make things look any better.
