theguardian.com/football/2018/jan/05/derbys-curtis-davies-has-always-been-vocal At the age of 32, Davies is no stranger to big games, the biggest of which came in 2014 in the FA Cup final, in which he scored Hull’s second goal. “It was bittersweet. Arsenal had beaten us easily 3-0 at home three weeks before in the league. We were the underdogs, so when we went 1-0 up, we were in dreamland. Then I scored: 2-0. Obviously being captain, you start to think about climbing the stairs and lifting that trophy. “We ended up losing and I was going round lifting people’s heads off the floor but as I’ve looked to see Arsenal lifting the trophy, that’s when I turned into a blubbering wreck. I started crying my eyes out.”
I’ll admit I wasn’t arsed when he left but I didnt think we’d replace him with children and heartless careerist loanees. He’s exactly what we’re missing, and I’ve no doubt with him and Alex* at centre back we’d be 10 points better off minimum. *hypothetically, I know it wouldn’t have happened due to circumstances.
Such an emotional day, now only 4 years later we play in it again tomorrow for £12 and no one gives a ****... I'll always hate Arsenal.
Ditto, and their classless fans. Still can't bring myself to watch a recording of the game. Players did us proud that day.
I know I'm starting to go on about it now, but City this season are a perfect example of why being a big name isn't everything, and how having those big name players or ones who've come from big clubs doesn't in the slightest mean that they're any better than the supposedly limited, less trendy players.
It's nearly 4 years ago and I've never watched it back. 6 or 7 times I've gone to and just can't bare it and which it off.
I've got nothing against Arsenal, they were the better team over the course of the game and deserved to win it. Their fans on the other hand were everything that's wrong modern big club football. They were absolutely classless and couldn't be bothered to stick around to watch their team lift their first trophy in a decade, I'll never respect them.
I mean even ignoring that day, Arsenal's fans, in fact the club as a whole, are definitely the most difficult to have any sort of respect for. Everything about that club just reeks modern football. I found it really irritating how they got so much sympathy for that penalty last week, when smaller clubs routinely get shafted by decisions against Arsenal and it's not such a big deal.
I've got nothing against Arsenal either, yes they played better, but also should have been down to 10 men, but the ref bottled it, was it the occasion he didn't want to spoil? Who gives a **** about the occasion, play to the letter of the law. That's what pisses me off about football, the ref decides, because it's a Cup Final, because it's early in a game, because it's the local derby.... what other stupid reason would a ref use. If it's a foul, or a red card it should be given! If you want to see late drama where the letter of the law is accurate 90% of the time, watch NFL. There might be long stoppages, there might be a load of refs, but they get most of the things right under review. They don't care if someone has scored a winning touchdown in the final seconds of a game. They get it right, or at the very least reviewed!
Have you seen how long an NFL match goes on for? I’d like to leave a footie ground at least with enough time to get in a round before last orders!
To be fair they still get big calls wrong in the NFL, despite multiple referees and replays. The Steelers were robbed against the Patriots the other week in a decision that was so bad it almost looked deliberate. I agree with your sentiment though, be consistent throughout the game, time wasting is the one that gets me, you can do it for the first 85 minutes, you'll then probably pick up a booking for doing it in the last 5 minutes but then you're free to carry on because no referee has the balls to give a second yellow for it and send someone off.
My thoughts exactly. Wasn't arsed to see him go, in the same way we got rid of rosenior and got a miles better player in odubajo. But hector Jesus. To be fair Mazuch could be good but slut didn't pick him then he got injured.
I'm not saying NFL is perfect by any means, but that's why I said 90% correct IMO, they aren't afraid to bring back a match winning score & then the other team runs it & scores. Anyway enough of NFL, my point is still that things get bottled & our Cup Final was one of them. In '85 the ref didn't bottle it to make the first sending off in a Cup Final. That's a long time ago when money wasn't running the game.
I agree with your general point but I'd drop your NFL example of how it should be done. There's massive criticism of both on field refs and video refs. General consensus is standards have gone down the ****ter. Go Bills.
