I guess it keeps us out of (or could get us into) mischief during the football off-season.

I see these Curragh horse tips currently have odds of 1/5, 10/11 & 5/4 so not much money to made - not like Eddie's Blonde Snapper 8/1 greyhound Derby winner last night.

Trouble with the dogs is you don't know how it's going to run and there is no one to control it. I think it was at Monmore or somewhere like that when the 1/5 favourite came last and 40/1 rank outsider came first a few weeks ago.

Yes, no jockeys, but there is form - before placing my wager on Blonde Snapper yesterday I viewed YouTube videos of previous races and he really looked up for it each time starting from Trap 6.

I once backed a dog in a hurdle race that instead of jumping the hurdles leaped over the side of the track legged it across the middle, back on the track on the far side and caught the hate.
Bookies never paid out. Tight a...s

In case anyone's looking at this now, Theresa's a dodgy looking beginners chase at Fakenham, only 5 horses, all who fallen before, and the Tote are paying £360 to a £2 bet for the outsider Cloonavery!!

It only takes four horses to fall......

1979 - Having a bit of fun at Curragh while I watch the League 2 playoff final game at Wembley.

For the 3:40 race I didn't like the look of the favourite Homecoming Queen at the starting gate - sweating heavily on a very hot day. Commentator was quite positive about Samitar though, which I went with for the win @ 12/1.

No such luck with the 4:15 race - went with Tsar Paul @ 25/1 due to R's blue & white hoops on the jockey!

Well, he came second!! The favourite fell, bringing down another horse, which left the third one about a furlong clear of my donkey. ......1/4 of the odds at 100/1!!!

Must be beginners luck on my part, but for the 4:50 Curragh race I went with Tidarbret @ 12/1 and it actually won - it was a grey, which my Dad always had a liking for.

Not sure if the extreme heat is having an impact on the favourites?

Remind me not to listen to any more of your tips. Three horses that were all practically odds on and the only one to come in was 1-5. Even I can tip better than that!

Wish I had read your "heads up" post earlier - with such a small field of five, surprised any horse would start at 100/1 odds, so that was a really astute move on your part.

Yes, indeed, during the football off-season, please keep those "informed" tips coming - I actually had a bit of fun last weekend with Eddie's Blonde Snapper greyhound race and then the Curragh meet, whilst watching some really boring football league playoff final games and then international friendlies.

Luckily I didn't go with the odds on favourite selections at Curragh. Nice on the Bet365 site that they live stream the races and give the SP odds if better than when you wagered.

In one race at the starting gate on the very hot day the fav had really lathered up quite a sweat and the commentator liked the 14/1 horse that won, so I selected that. On another race the trusted blue & white hoops of the jockey shirt certainly didn't help me. My final selection I went with the greys - there were two of them, because my Dad always liked the greys and one of them won @ 12/1. Actually in that race I almost had ae 1st/2nd double, but was in the wrong order - would have paid $79 for a $1 wager! (I had $2 on it).
