Interesting comment by Dr Kish yesterday I have to agree with him that Curbs needs to rebuild and if that is in the Championship then so be it. As long as it's not the Croydon Club!
It was always going to be hard for him to get a Premier League club, and he should have lowered his sights a while ago realistically.
He is and was a first rate manager, but reputation is something that has to be in front of the public every day. His action against the Whammers meant that the premier owners were always going to be wary of him and he should have knuckled down and taken a championship club at that time. If he is to get back into the game, and it will be a loss to the game if he doesn't he will have to look at rebuilding from the position he started, a struggling championship or better league one club. I for one would like to see him back in management even if it did mean him sitting in the away dug out at the Valley this season or next (when CP gets us promoted). He is to good a manager to be pushed out into the cold.
His problem was constant overachievement at mid range clubs. Taking ourselves and west ham to heights not seen in recent times. Because he hasn't been relegated with a good club or crashed out nobody notices him. The managers who fail consistently get jobs. I agree he is a top level manager and a top one at that, but he's not loud enough to get noticed
Curbs or Mcleish I`d say if this happens Brum would of landed on their feet...if villa prefer Alex then someone has a screw loose
if Sam Allardyce is prepared to manage in the Championship then Curbs ought to be as well as others have said, rightly or wrongly to land a Premier League job you need to be in the spotlight whether it's because of success or failure and the spotlight's been away from Curbs for some time now
I think taking on Curbs is seen as a double edged sword by many clubs. On one hand he is a pretty quiet and humble guy which suits a side with mid-table ambitions who could perhaps do better. But for a larger side he may be seen as too conservative and publicity shy. That is not my opinion as I would love to have a guy like Curbs in charge of my side - if I owned a club, that is. So the Championship would be perfect for him. Birmingham is definitely a possibility. But I don't think he wants to move away from his Essex home and Southend United have got a manager. However, there is another club that would be perfect for him.........
I will say he's been out of work for a while partly because he wanted top level jobs and did'nt get the offers. Time to get serious for him, as I rate him too talented to be out of football, but after the time out he's taken, maybe a job at Watford or Notts County would get him back in the groove. A player whospent three years without playing might not seem too attractive, and Curbs needs to get back on line.
If Watford had a half decent transfer budget, which they might have after recent transfers, then Curbs would probably be interested. Plus the distance from his Essex home would be attractive. Perhaps Elton John will have a conflab with Curbs' brother, Bill, the manager of rock bands? Can anyone tell me if season tickets can be paid for over a set repayment plan? I am a bit poor now after a cutback in my hours and don't have the funds for a large outlay. Plus I would like to get another two for the nippers. Any help would be gratefully received. Cheers.
Welcome, Ponders End - I had a couple of cracking Chinese meals there at Changs a/k/a The Water Margin - don't suppose it's still there, is it? Welcome back Spain/Ken, good to have you on here.
The club offer a financing option over several months but beware of the interest rate charged, when I looked it was up there in the credit card level.
Im seriously considering getting a season ticket again, last year was the first year i havent got one since i was 6 (i was 21 on thursday). On the curbs situation though tbh he just didnt fit west ham, and to be looking at getting a top flight job he is punching above his weight. He is a consistent manager but not a big enough name or character to go and manage one of the top sides. Championship side would be best for him, not too much expectation and a chance to get back on track and get a team up there. Or he could go to palace and do a dowie if he really loved us
Thank you for the welcome, Tewkesbury. Not the Water Margin anymore, it is now the Kelly Garden, but the food is very, very good indeed. Cheers for the warning on that one, Scratching. I may have to go on an ad-hoc basis if it is too much.
I'm amazed it's still there PE, it was started as Chang's by a work colleague, Peter Chang - an accountant with the soul of a chef - and when I went to the opening, it's certainly one of the best meals I've ever had. I went back there a couple of years later and it had changed to The Water Margin but the food was still first class.
Probably not the same owners or chef but the grub is excellent. It is the restaurant next to the Goat pub. You probably remember the Beef and Barrel pub that was next to the police station? A really good pub but was knocked down and the developers never stumped up the cash to do anything with it, so a pile of rubble remains behind a palisade. My area of London is a pretty ropey but the some of the restaurants are superb. The Roshan opposite Edmonton Green police station is just exquisite - the best in my opinion - and I have eaten at a lot of ruby houses!
