Not as fashionable as Lambert or Martinez. Available (if you can drag him off the golf course). Has played for Villa (for one season). The Midlands is some distance from Essex, but maybe not too much? Honest 'Arry commutes so why can't Curbs? What do we think on 'ere?
I think its a good shout but I have a sneaky feeling that Bill is right and AC is yesterday's man. Shame.
Think if Curbs were to come back into the management game, he'd be better off going to a Championship club with good foundations and potential, but low expectations. That or an established mid to lower-table Premier League team. I guess Villa come under the latter, but I don't see him there.
Interesting that at the League Managers association awards, three of the four league winners had been signed to Charlton by Curbs. I would not be surprised if he ended up at Villa and even though he has been out for some time he would still be better than what they have just got rid of, according to my Villa friends. I can't see them getting Lambert and Wigan will hold on to their own for the time being - if RDM didn't think it worthwile joining them last season he certainly isn't going to find the situation improved this. Curbs did look at the Wolves job which is a bit further from his stamping ground in Essex and the fact that he turned Wolves down might make him the ideal candidate for some at Villa Park. For me, I would like to see him have a job at the top level again.
Villa won't take another risk when appointing a manager. Curbs would raise questions from the Villa fans, so really can't see it. Shame.
Curbs is about as risk free as it gets when it comes to Premier League managers, surely? He would at least get them moving in the right direction. I think Randy Lerner (love that name) wants a young manager to inspire the young players coming through. He's clearly got an eye on the financial fair play rules.
Considering Curbs left WHU in the upper echelons of the PL in 4th, there's no reason why he wouldn't make a successful return to football management. He'd be an asset anywhere but I think is very choosy about where he would go and if the conditions are right eg not too much board interference.
To think CAFC fans wouldn't currently take AC back as manager after years of yearning for him - thats crazy! He should pull his socks up and get back in to football ASAP.
I read that Randy Lerner (sounds like a training school for lechers) is on his way to meet with Paul Faulkner to recruit a vibrant new manager for villa. The quote has been turned on its head by the media of course, when Faulkner talked about getting vibrancy back into a young team but the media immediately dismiss the likes of Curbs in that respect. I expect that the Lechers academy may not be so concerned and will look for bang for his buck, but what should they be looking for? The lessons of the last twelve months have shown me that, in addition to being a good coach, any manager has to be a team builder not an assembler of talent. CP has managed to do that and history shows us that Curbs had that ability, as have many of the best managers of the last fifty years - SAF, AW and to a certain extent JM have built teams rather than collections of individuals who can set fire to their own bathrooms. Maybe we should put together some advice for the Villains Chief Lecher on what he should be looking for rather than "vibrancy" By the way if Mr Faulkner needs "vibrancy" I am sure that his wife or Ann Summers could probably provide a stock.
