    Completely out of the blue - and the Club still haven't announced it officially - Alan Curbishley has joined Kit's 'backroom' staff -

    "Kit Symons has added Curbishley to his backroom team, and the Fulham manager said: ‘I am delighted. Alan is someone who I know reasonably well. And I know him by reputation extremely well. He’s been around a long time with a wealth of experience. ‘That’s the one thing that myself and my staff, who have been fantastic I’ve got to say, haven’t got at that level. He’s got that experience in abundance. I’ ll be certainly tapping into him trying to get as much knowledge and use his experience as much as possible.

    ‘I want to be as good as I can be and want the staff to be as good as they can be and I want the football club to do as well as it can. And Alan Curbishley coming in will help that."

    Gobsmacked! Is he (again) being lined up to take over?? Where does this fit in with the role of Mike Rigg!?

    Ah - you beat me to it Cottager! Strange one isn't it? Given we've been here before you have to wonder whose decision it was to hire him.

    And I hadn't picked up that the Club had 'slipped' it in under the guise of the Bournemouth game preview, Fulhamish. Which makes it all the more weird and begs the question, what's to hide?

    Liked your thread headline by the way - which exactly summed up my reaction to the news. I know Curbishley's been there, done that and most would agree Kit could do with a 'sounding board'. And as we know at the time of the "5-man Committee" selection process, there were strong rumours that he would come in a Director of Football (or some such title). However, Kit's comments don't really suggest thay Curbs will be out on the training ground, coaching - so what exactly is his role?

    Frankly Khan's approach to these appointments worries me. I only hope that there are clear job descriptions for him, Mike Rigg and of course, Kit.

    Unbelievable!!!! What is happening at this club, does anyone have a plan!!! Do they know what they are doing!!!! What next bring Ray Wilkins back from Jordan then Rene!!!!! or is it going to be Magath!!! Jol!!! What exactly did Curbishley do when he was at the club before???
    Frankly I've lost all confidence in Khan, I guess this was in his master plan all along!!!!
    As they sing 'You don't know what you're doing' and I guess that sums up our club from the time Khan took over.
    The only thing I can guess is that they think Kit has taken on too much and needs help, could it be that Kit showed he didn't have the necessary clout and contacts to get in players during the transfer window?

    You've hit it on the head SuperBri. The news also makes some sense of comments Kit made at the beginning of today's press conference - funnily enough I was going to post them under the Ubiquitous Chairmans 'Vote of Confidence' thread but didn't 'cos I thought I was over-reacting! Anyway, here is a precis of what Kit said;

    “When someone (Khan) puts that trust in you, you want to repay it. I had to do a ‘rebuilding job’ but building takes time which is a precious commodity in football My main focus is on the short-term. While I wouldn't expect any assurances' from Shahid Khan about my long-term future, I am already planning for next season.

    As much as I want to do well here, I want the right thing for the football club and Khan will make those decisions."

    I'll put money on the fact Curbs will take over in the summer him and Kit will have a ruck. I just don't get it. This was rumoured in Jan however Ali Mac denied it - someone tells porkies. Also I sit in the Riverside I should have mentioned I've seen Curbs twice since Jan doing the walk. Writing was on the wall.

    Maybe we should give Kit the benefit of the doubt when he says he wanted Curbishley in. Kit wants what's best for the club, and it can't have escaped his notice that things haven't been going very well lately. He perhaps recognises the need for a mentor who can help with some of the things that have been going wrong. Curbishley was also credited with compiling detailed reports on upcoming opponents when he was here before.

    If Kit has requested help I am delighted... It is obvious he needs some help.
