Crystal Palace host Sunderland in the U23 Premier League 2 Play-Off Final please log in to view this image Match preview Palace U23s come into this game after a 3-2 extra-time victory against Wolves last Monday in the play-off semi-final. The Eagles welcomed two Under-18s prospects into the squad for the semi-final, one of them being league-leading goalscorer David Omilabu - whose goal made the difference last time out. Sunderland upset the odds by beating second-placed Stoke City 2-0 in their semi-final last Monday with goals from Josh Hawkes and Ollie Younger. They come into the game after going unbeaten in their last five games. Palace will now battle Sunderland for promotion after the Black Cats triumphed at Stoke City in the other semi-final. The Eagles will again have home advantage at Selhurst Park, because they finished third in the final standings while Sunderland were fifth. Sunderland had only grabbed a playoff spot on the final day of the regular season, thanks to a 1-1 draw with second-placed Stoke, but they beat the Potters 2-0 in front of almost 2,000 fans at the bet365 Stadium. Josh Hawkes opened the scoring between the sides for the second successive match before setting up Ollie Younger for the second. The winners will secure promotion to the Premier League 2 Division 1 - the highest level of development football. What are the rules of this final? Each team can field a goalkeeper over the age limit (23) and up to three "over-age" outfield players Five subs can be named, though only three can be used One winner - one team promoted, one team remains in their league If the scores are level after 90 minutes, the game moves to extra-time If the scores are still level after extra-time, the game will be decided by penalties Team Selections: Crystal Palace: Webber (GK), Russell, Rich-Baghuelou, M. Boateng, Hobbs, O’Brien, D. Boateng, Taylor, Street, Spence, Rak-Saky Subs: Whitworth (GK), Trialist, Hannam, Gordon, Omilabu. SUNDERLAND U23: Patterson; Richardson, Younger, Almond, Dyce; Wilding, Wearne; Hawkes, Neil, Diamond; Harris. Subs : Richardson, Wombwell, Taylor, Beaumont, Dunne, Hackett, Kachosa My 2 pence: After and impressive away win at Stoke in the semi-final I think the U23s can go the whole way and win promotion. I'm going for another tight game and a 0-1 away win. The game is being streamed by Palace: All supporters can purchase a one-off, pay-per-view pass to watch the match. For just £3, this pass will enable you to watch the broadcast via your phone, tablet or desktop. May I be the first to say another great thread mate and thanks for them all this season. I fancy the lads tomorrow as they are flying and look like they will go the extra mile for it. Be great for them to finish this off.
Why not mate. Not that long ago they were in this league. A well run club, investing as much in the youth as the 1st team, can go anywhere
Great again RTB, hope this one goes our way and some notice is taken from above of just how good these lads are, I am sure that others will be watching the situation closely, but if money is to be spent it should be spent on our academy, it is being run and managed brilliantly imo., Which is sadly more than you can say about the first team shambles. It was again the same old failings on show yesterday starting with the initial team selection, it was like watching a re-run of Ask a Policeman a complete farce from start to finish, I know you are too far too young to understand this ramble. OaU
Yeah - I had to google that Hopefully they will show the big lads how to play and win an important game and show that they are ready to step up to the first team. That first half was excellent imho - probably the best we've played this season but again we failed to take all of our chances and failed to play for the full 90 minutes.
