View attachment 17544 vs It's derby day this Friday when Palace arrive at the Valley to face Charlton for the first time in 3 years. Before the international break Charlton lost their first game of the season going doing 2-1 away to Nottingham Forest whilst Crystal Palace got their first win of the new season when they beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 at home. We currently occupy 17th spot in the league while Palace sit in the relegation zone occupying 23rd spot. The game will be shown live on sky for those who can't get down to the ground on a friday night. The main threat from this palace side will come through Zaha but we have a strong defense and if they perform like we know they can we should keep him and the rest of the Palace attack relatively quiet. I'm going to go for 2-0 with Bwp scoring first and then a Jacko penalty! It is a derby after all.
I'd hope that Powell would go with Danny Green (as I heard he had a good game vs. Chelsea), and go with the more traditional 4-4-2, rather than the 4-4-2 diamond shape versus Nottingham Forest, with on occasion left us quite exposed on the wings. With Wilfred Zaha in the Palace team, we're going to need sufficient cover on the wings, to preventing him. Given how good Big Yann is in the air, it would make sense to put an out and out winger in the team, to get those crosses into the box. If we have a tight passing game, not cheaply giving the ball away, like us vs. Leicester City in the first 45 minutes, I can see our scoreline being around 3 or 4 - 0. Possibly Palace may score one, but Hamer has been pretty good.
Not sure about Cook as a winger yet - looked like a lost puppy at times against Forest. I think I'd put Pritchard back on the right with Stephens (please God) coming back in to the middle. If Stephens doesn't return then I'm a little bit worried that we will be unbalanced in the middle, and invite more pressure on the defence. 2-1 if it's a midfield of Cook, Hollands, Pritchard, JJ. 2 or 3-0 if it's Pritchard, Stephens, Hollands, JJ
Thanks. I thought they were compulsory. On the plus side, there are probably slightly fewer teenagers who spend most of the match 'waving' at the away fans/players. Looking forward to this match. It's the first one this season where we can't say after the event that the opponents were 'always going to be in the mix at the end of the season'. They're no Forest or Leicester. And it's a derby. With that comes pressure. First derby for most of this team. Am hopeful.
Time for our midfield to step up to the mark. Hopefully Stephens will be back in, and keen to show everyone what a good player he is. Hollands has been quite solid but hasn't really got forward much, and on the odd occasion he has, the back 4 has looked a bit exposed, so maybe Stephens will get forward a bit more. An important game for JJ, a Captain's game would be most welcome please? And The Doctor has a decision to make about who plays RM. I hope Green gets the nod. I like Pritchard, but he's not a wide player, and I think playing Green would give the side more balance, as well as giving us an additional option to long balls to our front two.
There's a very strange comment on the BBC text service, to the effect that as Taylor is injured, Cort will fill in at CB... Say what? 2-0 to us.
Does this mean Cort's not injured? CAFC Twitter making a lot of Al Jazeera covering the match. Thought they had big sports coverage, and a bit surprised we haven't been covered by them before.
Let's hope he's fully focused - at least the international break means that he's had almost a fortnight to get the Aston Villa shenanigans out of his system, at least for the time being.
I think 2-0 to us, Fuller and BWP. Going on to the official site I could never find evidence Cort was out injured, does anyone know where this bit of news comes from? If he is fit my lineup would be Hamer, Solly, Morrison, Cort, Wiggins, Pritchard, Stephens, Hollands, JJ, BWP, Kermo. If they can beat LCFC then I think they will be able to handle CPFC
