Sunderland travel to Crystal Palace in the Premier League
Last time out Sunderland beat Brentford and Crystal Palace beat Aston Villa.
The Black Cats put in another great performance at home to beat Brentford 2-1 and to secure 6 points from their opening 3 fixtures. Brentford thought they had opened the scoring in the first-half but it was given offside after a VAR review. The visitors were awarded a penalty but Robin Roefs saved the spot kick. Brentford took the lead in the 77th minute with a Thiago header. But Enzo le Fee levelled things up from the penalty spot and the home supporters were left in raptures as Wilson Isidor nodded in Granit Xhaka's cross from the left to complete a remarkable turnaround.
Sunderland signed three players on transfer deadline day, Lutsharel Geertruida, Brian Brobbey and Bertrand Traoré from Ajax. Marc Guiu was recalled by Chelsea, Patrick Roberts has gone on loan to Birmingham.
Niall Huggins has moved to Wycombe on loan, Jensen Seelt has moved to Wolfsberg on loan, Allan Browne has joined Middlesbrough on loan.
Luke O'Nien and Aji Alese were seen back in training during the International break.

Crystal Palace won 3-0 away at Aston Villa. Goals from Mateta, Guehi and Sarr moved the Eagles up to 8th place before the international break.
Wharton picked up a groin injury and will miss the game, Sarr has a hamstring injury.
Marc Guehi’s move to Liverpool broke down at the last minute and he remains at the club. It was reported that Oliver Glasner had a massive fallout with the Palace hierarchy and threatened to walk away if captain Marc Guéhi was sold without a replacement.
New signing Manor Soloman could feature.
    Regis le Bris:
"At the end it was emotional for Sunderland. It was the case last season and it is already this season.
"It was not an easy game. It was a bit tough and the team reacted really well."
"Wilson is really well connected with the club. He had a happy day yesterday and another one today and he worked so hard. He deserved this moment. He flew yesterday evening and was ready to go this morning."
"We still have to learn the new rules. In the boxes it is a battle on set-pieces.
"We have to understand what is allowed and what is not. The balance is positive for us."
    Presser on Thursday 1:30 pm:
    https://www.youtube.com/live/5UPbAPG6O3w?si=-kfMvD7sH_I_vtr_
    Oliver Glasner :
"I told this to chairman we have to keep Marc if we want to play a successful season.
"We have no chance to find the right replacement in one day. We all agreed that we just sell Marc if we have the right replacement in the building. We wanted a replacement by the 1st July. We have this agreement so it is clear from me. He is such a crucial player. He is one of our key players - he is our captain.
"Again, if we want to play a successful season we have to keep him."
"I always find something that can be improved," he said of his motivations. "If I felt I couldn’t make any more of an impact, I would have to quit. There are always things to adjust, new players to integrate, and new ideas to introduce. That’s what makes the job of a coach so exciting – it’s a never-ending process."

    My two pence:
Palace are decent at home and this will be another tough away game, hopefully everyone returned fit and well from international duty.

I’m hoping to watch this one in the Italian lake district over a few bottles of Moretti
    I’m going for a 1-1 draw

What a joy these threads are, especially after these tedious breaks ...

... had a ticket, can't go so gave it away but I can't wait for this game.

We have a good team now, no reason we can't get a result there.

Good luck to our travellers, Ha'way the Lads!!!

I’m a little concerned about Alderete’s potential involvement in this one. I was relatively relaxed about the fact that they don’t kick off until 1am tomorrow morning and the long travel back but having realised that the game is in Peru at that altitude which is supposed to be a real killer I’m not sure what condition he’s going to be in.

I know he won’t be flying economy back and he’ll have the best recovery plan going but it will surely be tough for the lad?

Tough fixture to predict this one a Palace seem to be good at home.
We have enough about us to win this game as I think Palace will definitely be on the front foot which does tend to suit our favoured style of play, however they have some quality players going forward. IMHO I could see us or them nicking it but my head says 1-1. Which would be a good result given the team is really only just finding out about themselves and in my head we don't normally perform great after international breaks (again maybe it's just me that thinks this lol).

Tough match this one. It's a difficult place to go and win. I'd be happy with a point. Haway :emoticon-0103-cool:

Scrap that, I now see the game seemingly wasn’t played at altitude. Think my knowledge on the South American qualifiers is a little outdated.

Edit:…..or perhaps ahead of its time! ;) https://onefootball.com/en/news/per...-to-3339m-seeking-altitude-advantage-41638935

Palace will finish top half this season and I think they’re about 13/14 games unbeaten. A draw would be a great result, I wouldn’t even be disheartened with a defeat and a strong performance.

    Great thread as always @RTB

Be interesting to see what RLB does after so many players have been away on international duty, Alderete being the last one to report back i think.

I think we can match Palace and would be more than happy with a point. Can't wait to see what the 3 deadline day signings look like
