Lots of things similar to last season - Saturday 3pm kick off, Barnsley fans complaining about cost and very few turned up last year, we were just inside the play-offs last year while just outside this year but closer to top in terms of points But the crowd for a Yorkshire derby was 10% down this year, while last years' 25900 was widely perceived as much too low, with prices much too high. The crowd of 22,600 this year provides the clearest indication so far that the pricing policy of Mr Bates and his cronies is completely at fault here. As a long-term season ticket holder who finally had to say enough was enough for this season, I know of many others who have also given up, and the various sites such as these contain many numbers who have done the same. And none of it needed to be this way. Nearly all I know would still have been turning up if we had been treated correctly in ticket pricing terms, and the games v Barnsley bith this year and last should have been close to sell-out, with 4000 coming up from South Yorkshire. Unfortunately, I am not convinced the new owners will do the right thing to get the crowds back up - shave 20% off ticket prices and the numbers would increase by much much more to cover the same turnover, while a happy crowd in terms of value for money would happily spend spend spend on reasonably priced beer, food and programmes. I hope they do, but nothing I have read about them suggests that is in their plans.
We were poor today but got the points. If we keep getting results crowds will return. Bates going will also help, fingers crossed its soon.
Only 10% down on takings is pretty good, I know a lot of businesses that are far far worse off than 10% down on last year. Yes the pricing is wrong but the economy is pants and many people have far less disposable income. Reduce the price by £10 a ticket and I bet we would still have been down on last years attendance.
Pleased the Bates out chant that twice broke out as a whimper was shouted down in seconds! Please feel free to stay away it makes it easier to park and I was home by 6.15
I've always supported the view, lower prices mean more people likely to come and spend money. Bates and his old ****s in the boardroom don't see things this way and whilst they will probably not be with us for much longer, I feel sorry for the next team these bastards end up at. Drop the costs to around £15 for an adult and £7.50 for a child and there would have been another five thousand+ at the game
Think its more to do with results that have kept fans away, specially those who travel long distances. And of course Rhinos in the Grand Final!!
Much much more than that boab, because we would have many many more than the 5000 just through season ticket holders with those prices - we would never have lost them, plus Barnsley would have brought 4000 at those prices. And there would never have been any Bates out protests nor any Bates Out chants. Because we would never have had to put up with the cost base going sky high with loss making companies leading to us having to sell our best players And a happy fanbase feeling they get vfm will spend on well-priced vfm food, drink and programmes and merchandise It's a simple game and a simple philosophy needed for owners - but everything has been priced sky high at LUFC and a very large proportion of fans have had enough
Not forgetting the shocking £50 for the Macron black top, which has fallen to bits in less than 10 months.
You are not very perceptive chippy, you don't know history, and you're wearisome. Last year's crowd - with our nearest Football League neighbour - was suppressed by both Barnsley and Leeds fans not turning up. It was already at least 5000 down on what we should have expected, and this year it was another 10% down on that already low crowd. But I didn't expect you to be able to understand such complicated mathematics.
I think its not only the prices, its the price we are expected to pay compared to the perceived lack of investment - key players leaving and freebees arriving. I'd buy the argument that its true, you 'd get more though the turnstiles if the prices were reasonable (though whether enough more to push up total gate receipts is less certain. As a simple example - halve the prices and you need to more than double the gate, it ain't going to happen, not for what is being served up. But I also think more would attend if they believed the product on offer had been invested in. Anyway, we will see when the new owners arrive, one sunny day..........
2020 Not asking for 50% 20% would have prevented 6000 season ticket holders leaving in the last few years and prevented many of our problems
The ten percent would easily have been offset by a twenty percent decrease in ticket cost or a thirty three percent improvement in play would likely result in an increase of fifteen percent points thus propelling us into the top two and increasing gate by a further twenty five percent. How's that?
The match prices are not really the issue, its the football, the sale of the best players, covered up by cheap insults, lies & lack of leadership towards the Premiership from Bates that's keeping my wallet in my pocket. 60,000 people would pay £1000 plus a season if we had Premiership football with the Champions League. Investors realise this and know that you can double your money if your willing to invest. Bates could have done it if he had invested in Grayson a couple of years ago. He bottled it and now he is stuck trying to offload an asset for half what it is worth.
Based on what?! I think we have a huge fanbase, but we're not mugs, and our home support needs a lot of strengthening before we can get those numbers.
It's all about whether the fans feel they're getting value for money, and right now we're clearly not.
