Crouch is effective when he's paired with a player like Defoe and the defence can't double up on him or defend too high a line. He was often poor last season because our tactics didn't suit him at all, just like the rest of our strikers.
You guys surely don't still have Bentley on your books do you? I don't think Crouch is that bad either 2bh.
The strikers are all decent players, but none of them suit the system, Lidls. We don't have anyone capable of playing the lone striker role effectively.
Typical Levy, wont pay that for a similar aged player 'with no re-sale' value, but expects to be paid that for one.
I don't see where all the criticism for Crouch comes from. Like it or not he's been a key factor in most of our recent successes with vital goals and assists. Pavlyuchenko might've shone last night at MK but can you tell me when he's ever stepped up in a big game when the chips are down? Crouch has scored some hugley important goals and at least when he's on the pitch if he's not scoring he has the added threat of the knock down for Van Der Vaart/Defoe. When Pav's off (Which is 50/50), he offers absolutely nothing.
GDD, Pav scored an excellent goal against Chelsea last season, with one superb touch affording himself a few yards against the England captain followed by a superb finish on his left(I think). You won't see a better two touches all season. If anything, I think Pav can struggle for motivation against lower teams who defend a lot. Crouch's abillity to play an important role in games is diminishing rapidly and unless he starts getting given penalties for the slight fouls on him in the box, that doesn't look set to change.
