Thankfully our Premier league status has been guaranteed, a decision on who will lead us for the next couple of seasons is also now in place, so where next? Over recent seasons in the main we have kept our squad together over the summer period and we have had harmony and continuity within the club. Looking at the situation this year I feel we may not be able to maintain this tradition. There are strong rumours regarding Poz, Michu and Canas's futures at the club if you couple this with the return of our loan players to their parent clubs in particular JDG then can we cope with such a drain on our current squad. There is also the probability we will lose both Ash who has not signed an extension to his contract and Bony to a top club.i accept we can bring in replacements but will this be to the detriment of the continuity and spirit within the club which has helped us greatly over the past three or four seasons.
It's just as well we're not going to be relegated, otherwise you'd be really depressed. What is it with us Swans fans? We've just secured a historic 4th season in the Premier League and all everyone wants to do is bitch and complain. Be happy!!!
Not depressed at all, purely looking at our options for coming season. It's vital that we underpin what we have done over recent years and not throw it away. I'm merely asking the question!
I agree Sbulby, this close season seems it's going to be one of the most difficult in recent years. I felt that maybe we made a few too many changes last season by bringing in Cañas, Pozuelo, Amat, Bony, Shelvey, Vasquez and anyone else I can't think of right now. Couple that with the addition of Emnes and N'gog, and that makes 8 new faces in training. If we lose a few and replace them we could end up with a first team with over half of them being new players. That's a worry for me - too many changes at once rarely turns out well. Man management is a vital part of being a coach, and it seems at the moment the club is failing in that department with all the stories of in-fighting etc. Of course everyone is happy that we've guaranteed our PL status for next season, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking to next season asap due to the importance of what could happen.
Ive been optimistic season after season till this past January. Pessimism has reared its ugly head since . I think we will be hard pressed to keep this team together and will be harder pressed to field a replacement team under Monk .He will get my support but I wont lie to myself . I think there should be an inquiry into the boards actions for the 2013 - 2014 season . From firing Laudrups agent to the sacking of Laudrup to the team selection for the FA CUP game against Everton , questions should be answered toward the boards actions. To few making big and bad decisions , Im dreading the summer .
I'm with you on that Roof, the club has been very badly handled this season. When I think of the FA Cup match at Everton my blood still boils.
Like most fans who actually think about the future instead of repeating the mantra of how great we are even when we're not I'm really concerned about the new season. Critical times indeed. Doesn't mean I'm not relieved at staying up.
Just read article that Ash talking about contract extension. Good news. Watched GM earlier on Sky's goals on Sunday plans for next season under way with HJ. Fingers crossed.
What is strange or different that dont happen every season. A bit of an overreaction creeping in here, There are always players leaving at the end of every season just like there will be new players joining. I dont get what your point is...
Why is it an overreaction to question what's going to happen next season, particularly as we have a rookie manager in charge whilst competing in the toughest league in the world? Perfecty valid post. The OP's 'point' is that we've been a harmonious club over the past few years but this season has seen a sea change with backbiting, infighting and sackings. Players will be shown the door or request transfers by the looks of things and we rarely have players leaving in those circumstances. Will this atmosphere continue or will we get back on track? In fact it's probably the most important issue for Swans fans now that we're safe. Hope that makes it clearer for you.
So is it the timing or the subject or both that's bothering you. Go and enjoy your moment, nobodhy here is interefering with that, nobody is making you click down and read this thread, and let others discuss a well raised point without being chastised for apparently bruising your sensibilities. Does that really lead to a positive atmosphere.
I don't think he's complaining to be fair...just recognizing that we have a potentially difficult summer ahead. We've had a close call this season and what we do, or don't do in the close season is vital to us continuing to develop, which is what the board will want. After all, it was a criticism of ML for being too realistic about our ability to challenge the top 6. That said, I'm very interested to see who Huw and co pick to keep us developing and moving up.
You can't compare the two. Liverpool was one week before our first Wembley Cup final and I can understand players not going full out for fear of injury...ML picked a team he thought would compete and they didn't turn up. The Everton game was quite simply thrown given the team selection. Pretty awful.
Monk and Bartley played against Liverpool. Ki was selected over Monk at Wembley. Bartley disappeared. I think that might have been Laudrup recalibrating attitude / performance issues.
