What's that? 10 plus...ish new employees along with all the associated costs must add over £1m to the cost side of the P&L. What are we doing???? Has nobody told the management that we are in crisis with no money?

Exciting times for the youth though<ok>

    <cheers>

Yep - to be tier 2 youth team it needs over a million a year investment (loads more rules regarding staff etc), so we are spending money.

In fact, a few Premiership teams didn't even apply to be tier 2. But we're skint <ok>

Would this be "the academy" that has produced players for cash, as has been the case when we've been skint before... How many have we had in recent years that go on to play for us for more than a season?

Plus we recently rejected an approach from West Ham re Solly. I don't imagine they bid less than a million (reports said 2million, but who knows).

The £1m+ we got for Jenkinson allowed us to rebuild last season, McGinty generated £500,000 (more than we got for Rob Elliot!) a few seasons ago.

Could well be coincidence, but Charlton Youth have just followed Nicky Forster on Twitter. They did that last week with Nathan Jones (hope I got his name right) and he was announced as a part of the set up shortly after.

...Solly has had one season, and we still have to wait & see whether we'll cash in... Wagstaff probably hasn't been sought after & wouldn't fetch much if he was, and as soon as somebody wanted Elliot he was gone... Not much of a report so far, for an academy that has produced a lot of quality players... Split hairs if you want, but we've had no long term gain from it, other than cash.

Are you guys living in a cocoon or something...? No need to take another threads slant over onto this one. I'll repeat what I said on the other thread (may have been deleted one)... When certain posters, across the forums, and I'm talking about those who always see things through rose coloured specs, state we have problems, then there is some justification for concern.

I want, I think the point is that the Club have just committed to over £1m in new spend when.. a club in financial difficulties... would just say let's close the youth set-up and save ourselves £1.75m a year!

That's the £1m in new spend plus the £750,000 we spent last year on the youth

I don't think the new thread was based solely on yours (sorry to inform you), but in general at the noises being made. It's fine if you want to believe the scaremongering, but until facts are produced or any of the people I know/knew from the club say otherwise then I'm dismissing it as speculation.

As I said, everyone's source is saying something different. This is what makes me believe that a majority of the HP's are either made up or what they are saying has been taken the wrong way (we aren't spending millions, but that doesn't make us broke). The board are continuing with the plan they set out to us last summer and thats evident in their promise to grow/improve the youth set up. We gained promotion with 101 points (which has been done how many times?) and have a good, young squad. We don't need another 20 players at £2million a piece.

You don't have a thread about "general noises" until I brought up the fact that you deleted it.

AH started a thread last week discussing what was being said, then on Saturday JA started one (which was deleted). Your ''no smoke without fire'' thread is still there <ok>

Well I didn't & haven't found the AH thread... The JA deleted one was prominent on this site at the time, and was the one I participated in.

Has anybody shared their thought on Peter Varney leaving? I can't find anything?

My thread is just below this one I Want <ok>

I was worried last week but the continued investment in the youth set-up (which is an easy target in cost cutting) has made me feel a lot easier now :)

And when Chris signs his new contract I will be :D

Hope your right AH... I won't apologise for my cynicism regarding the academy, because with over 40 years of support behind me, I've learned that in football terms it has benefited other clubs more than ours... It has paid for itself over the years, with the money generated from it more often than not ending up in some mysterious black hole.

I Want.., the thing about the owners is that they want the club to be self financing and a big part of that is to develop players (either brought into the Club [Wiggins] or home produced [Solly]) and sell them on. The profit on player sales will go to off-set first team losses with the aim to retain enough quality to regain Premiership status.

These days Clubs are not able to cover costs with Ticket Sales/League Payments/Shirt Sales so Clubs have to find alternative sources of income and with us (like Crewe) our best chance is with youth development.
