Basically I find it criminal that Carrick is only winning his 28th cap today aged 31. What a waste of a talent that England have not utilised, only now he seems to be getting recognised and given the credit he deserves. I think he's a brilliant midfielder and has the best passing range of all our other centre midfielders.

    I disagree.

He's not a brilliant midfielder, a brilliant midfielder is someone like Mata.

Hes done well I agree, albeit in a friendly against a team we should beat. It will be interesting to see how he performs against Brasil on Sunday

You are comparing two players that play in different positions.

Not really, the article relates to passing range.

You know as well as anyone Carrabuh an English midfielder with a very good passing range is a rarity. No, he doesn't have the passing range of Mata but is stronger in his defensive duties than Mata, hence why he plays deeper. Mata is a better player, but he isn't English.

I'm not talking just about tonight canary_max, in general his season has a whole has been very good as well as his whole career. Definitely underrated especially amongst the England camp. I would have him in my team ahead of Gerrard everytime.

That is very true, but in terms of International football, I think he's far from brilliant

Regarding the match, I like the look of James mcartney, energetic and can pick a pass. Suspect a lot of teams might be interested in him

    Is Wes on the bench?

I'd take McCarthy in a heartbeat, all round midfielder who will suit us well.

And yes he is, god knows why he isn't on yet.

I know, bit of a joke. The only player Ireland have who could turn this game on it's head.

But no he has to stick with his flat tactic rather than put on his best players.

When you see Connor Sammon coming on in a similar position you understand how frustrated Wes must be on that bench at the minute.

Trap loves a 442 traditional system
Half of that team play in the championship plus the two from stoke who arent the greatest players

Quality player. England managers have always had a tendency to rely too much on box to box players and grafters in the midfield for years it's always been continuous combinations of Gerrard, Lampard and Parker other various additions like Milner and Hargreaves, all of which in my opinion have failed when facing quality opposition, the whole central midfield debate has dragged on for nearly a decade now it'll never be solved because once again we'll produce box to box midfielders and grafters, it's an absolute shambles.

And for Hoolahan not playing Trappatoni further proves what a dickhead he is, half that Ireland team aren't even fit enough to lace Wes's boots in my opinion, they played well tonight but lacked that Hoolahan creativity.
